THE ORIGINAL WAILERS FEATURES WAY, AL AND JUNIOR![]() |
| Bob Marley and the Wailers have sold more than 250 million albums over the past 40 years and it has been his band that has helped create this international success.
Now many of Marley’s legendary musicians, together with other renowned reggae session-men, have now reformed under the title of The Original Wailers. It was these celebrated musicians who gave Marley the platform for his explosive brand of roots rock reggae, and audiences will be delighted to learn that the magic and commitment is still there. Keyboard player Earl Wya Lindo first joined the Wailers with Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer in 1973, at the time when the Wailers debut album for Island Records, Catch A Fire, was first released. Wya has played on classic records by Bob, Peter and Bunny, as well as the Abyssinians, Dennis Brown and many others, including U.S. bluesman Taj Mahal. American born guitarist Al Anderson joined the Wailers a year later, just prior to Natty Dread becoming Bob Marley and the Wailers breakthrough album in the US. It was Al’s playing on hits like “No Woman No Cry†that first alerted rock fans to the Wailers music, and lent Marley’s songs their international appeal during his career. He’s played with Peter Tosh, James Brown, Traffic, Ben Harper and Lauryn Hill. He also produced Steven Seagal’s first album Songs from the Crystal Cave. Bob Marley enrolled singer/guitarist Junior Marvin in the Wailers during sessions for the Exodus and Kaya albums, shortly before the band’s legendary appearance at London’s Rainbow Theatre in 1977. A former rock artist, his solos on tracks like “Waiting In Vainâ€, “The Heathen†and “Jammin†have proven unforgettable, confirming him as one of reggae’s premier instrumentalists. Exodus was Junior’s first album with Marley and the Wailers and it was voted Best Album Of The 20th Century’ by Time Magazine. Junior has also played with Ike & Tina Turner, Steve Winwood, Stevie Wonder, Toots & the Maytals, and recently with OAR. Junior, Al and Wya toured and recorded with Marley until his death in 1981. This places them among the rare few  the only true torchbearers of his legacy — which they memorably helped to create. Now The Original Wailers, with Junior handling all lead vocals, promise to recreate musical history as they continue to spread the message of “One Love.†Catch them on tour this fall! |

DEL MAR BANS GANJA SMOKNG REGGAE ARTISTS & FANS![]() |
| In response to complaints about marijuana use at summer concerts, the Del Mar Fairgrounds (San Diego County, CA) has banned cigarette smoking at the annual county fair and approved a policy allowing pat-down searches only at reggae concerts.
The new rules will not apply to the dozens of other concerts and events – including the summer horse races – held at the fairgrounds and racetrack throughout the year. The fairgrounds’ board of directors has been under pressure from anti-smoking activists since August, when people complained about blatant marijuana smoking during a Ziggy Marley reggae concert at the racetrack grandstands. The controversy over pot led to the idea of a tobacco ban. Activists, including Debra Kelly of the American Lung Association for San Diego and Imperial Counties, said that banning cigarette smoking would make it easier to crack down on marijuana use. At yesterday’s meeting, the 22nd District Agricultural Association, which governs the state-owned venue, approved an anti-drug policy for reggae concerts and the ban, which will allow smoking only in designated areas during the fair. The reggae-concert policy will restrict shows to adults 21 and older, along with strict security measures that could include pat-down searches. Reggae performers will have to sign a contract prohibiting them from using or promoting illegal drugs while they are on fairgrounds property. |

A MIDNITE & YOUSSOUPHA SIDIBE COLLABORATION![]() |
| The groundbreaking recording FOR ALL is a collaboration between Vaughn Benjamin of St. Croix, Virgin Islands based- Midnite, one of reggae’s most potent vocalists whose lyrics address cultural paradox, fundamentals of ancient wisdom, Rastafari and the African in the Diaspora and Youssoupha Sidibe of Senegal, a master kora player (the ancient guitar/harp instrument) with a diverse musical palette and member of the mystic Sufi Baay Faal community of Senegal.
What the project signifies is the first instance where African traditional artist and a modern Reggae artist have collaborated on a full-length recording that has been made available to the record buying public. As Youssoupha notes: “I went to St. Croix to bring the tradition back.” And the evocative nature of this set of recordings is noted as he recalls, “When I went there, it was making me feel like I am doing something important, I didn’t even hesitate, I was thinking that this my home and those are my people.†The songs are supported by subtle, yet dramatic keyboards and percussion that weave the vibrant fabric of a unique set of songs that stir deep sentiments of cultural healing and sharing. Vaughn’s vocals and mystic concepts are punctuated with Youssoupha’s chants in his native Wolof language on this selection as he says, “Black people, wherever you are…today we are going to praise your ancestors because our tradition is one, we share it, and we are entitled to it.” In the portion sung by Vaughn, he makes reference to Goree Island, the place known as the point of no return, which is located in Senegal. This is the location where the slaves were held before departure. |

| PRAYER OF ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; And where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen |
