Its early, maybe 7:30 A.M.
I just stand outside my hotel door and take it all in.
Wondering what adventures await this solo traveler.
A breakfast is always the the best way to start the day.
So, I shower and get dressed.
When I was all set I gathered my key, a little money and sunglasses. Gotta have those.
I walk out to the road and decided to go to the right this time.
Beep! Beep! The sound of taxi drivers looking for a fare.
“No thanks, I’m footing it this time.
My regular driver is already outside his car chillin on the road.
He just sticks out his arms, palms up.
I shake him off with a hand gesture that means “no ride for me now”
He understands.
I walk past the Time Square shopping Mall .
It looks like it is not open yet.
A little further down and I see the little store across the road. It is open and people are going in out.
All of a sudden I see a little sign “Selina’s Coffee and Restaurant”
It is a tropical looking place with a lot of Bamboo and plants.
I can see a few folks sitting down and eating.
This will do.
I walk through the entrance and there are enough empty tables to be able to pick any one I want.
“Good morning sir, how are you?” I hear the waitress say .I am fine and very hungry.
The brightest smile appears across her face. Here’s a menu, can I get you coffee?
"You sure can" I say. Cream? Sugar? she asked. “yes please I reply."
She comes back, pours me a good size cup and puts down the cream and sugar.
no static at all (Steely Dan song)
Soon, the waitress comes back” Are you ready to order? My, this is a pretty lady, She looks so nice and natural. No makeup what so ever.
Umm, how are the eggs? Oh, they are as fresh as can be. Cool, give me 3 fried eggs, well done, bacon and toast. Sure she says, more coffee? You bet, I say.
Nothing like the anticipation of that first breakfast, coffee in hand.
Soon, I hear the sounds of someone singing and cooking in the kitchen. It was the Chef, man I love Jamaica. After a little while the food comes out and it has steam coming off of it. Steam! That’s the way uh huh, uh huh I like it! Hot fresh out the kitchen!
The eggs were fried just the way I like, done, not runny, excellent! The bacon was well done, crisp and very tasty. The bread , toasted, was a thick hearty wheat. Just the right crunch.
After eating I just sat there with more coffee. Looking out on the road, relaxing and people watching. I paid the bill, told the nice waitress the meal was very good and I would back soon. I said “tell the chef he has skills”st in Jamaica
Before I left the singing chef popped his head out the kitchen and said “Thanks mon!”
Oh how I love breakfast in Negril, Jamaica!
