Short Trip Report-Part 1 The Hotel

Took the kids(15 and 20) and GF for a week the first week of August 2016. I hadn't been back in Jamaica for just under 3 years and some things had, of course, changed. That's life. Things happen.

We stayed at Travellers Beach Resort, which was a fine choice. We had two standard rooms on the north side of the property. The one on the second floor had a peek of a view of the ocean. Each room was clean. They are in the process of rehabbing all the rooms. Ours had a flat screen TV with tons of channels, but it could have used a coat of paint on the doors or just new doors. The fridge was large and worth the $5usd/day. The other room was the closest room facing NMB, but the kids reported it was quiet, the ac cold, the beds comfy and the bath fine. The ac in our room and our bath were both fine as well. Our porch was very large and was a nice meeting place. No phones in any room.

We ate at the hotel restaurant the day we arrived and one other day at lunch. The prices were ok, and the quality was good. The table service was good as well. The bartenders seemed shy, but friendly.

The pool is kept clean and is a bit cooler than the ocean, so it provides a nice change of pace. It also is decently shaded after 3pm, so its a good place to finish the day. There is a small waterfall with a grotto!

The beach is OK, and has increased in size since my last visit. The beach security is good and is happy to get beach loungers when needed. There is also a staff member for the beach during the day who attends to towel exchanges, chairs, etc...

It was quite an interesting mix of guests. No loud parties and nobody was obnoxious. In fact, even though the hotel was at least 1/2 full, most everyone kept to themselves and there was little mingling....

The hotel staff is very friendly. The gift shop is very well stocked and not a rip-off on many items. There is something, entertainment-wise, every evening.

The location is very good, close to downtown. There is both front and beach security and a decent sized parking lot.

I would rate the hotel as very safe, very clean, very friendly and an EXCELLENT bargain for beachfront property.

The only complaint is that the restaurant does not serve coffee before 8am and then the cups they give you for the room are tiny styrofoam jobs. They wont provide a carafe of coffee and cream for take-back to the room! Feh!
We later saw a coffeemaker being removed from a room by cleaning staff(the rooms don't have coffeemakers!) and we asked what was up and could we get it? They just took our room number and that was the last we heard of the coffee maker. If we return to this property, we will be certain to pack our own 20 buck coffee maker and leave it there!

So, all said, this is a HIGHLY RECOMMENDED PROPERTY....

    Next...the beach!
