This is not a general indictment of all travelers who invite virtual strangers into their personal space and, by doing so, into the personal space of others but........

We are incredibly trusting of strangers more so on our brief visits to Jamaica than we are otherwise prone to do so at home. Now, I know some will say.... "I meet people all the time where I live and invite them into my home" but I would counter that a different set of "rules of engagement" are enforced and used before you invite them into the house where you permanently reside.

Your new "best friends" are developed from limited information and a "gut feeling" and for some reason that seems to trump common sense that you probably possess at home.

Remember, the hotel owners LIVE with these "new best friends" 24/7 and are much better judges of their quality and character than your gut. It isn't because the less friendly owners towards the local Jamaicans are necessarily biased towards their fellow occupants of Negril without some good reasons.

I agree with Jitterbug on this that I don't want other people's new "best friends" roaming around where my possessions are kept during my stay at a hotel. I appreciate their efforts in providing me security and I trust them a little more than my "gut feeling" as to who is a good person and who might be there to take advantage of me.

Let me just say that I live in rural Jamaica for much of the year and when I travel, I stay mostly in Jamaican homes and/or visitor-friendly places so I personally have no problem with any of this. But, if I were a "newby" to Jamaica and got a room in a place next to the room of someone who had a lot of their new "best friends" roaming around my door, I would certainly feel my personal space was being violated and the money I paid for the privilege to stay there was not paying for what i had bargained for.

I would have to agree with you, Accompong. I think it's a good idea to look specifically for those properties that allow it. Personally, I am on the other end of the spectrum. I want to know that my property, and myself, are restricted. Who knows when I may have had one too many Red Stripes....lol

Ok i was about totype a lengthy response. But i want to say just this. Im not a newbie, ive travelled extensively, im not into one night anythings and not looking to hook up with strangers...why would you think its all about sex!? I have friends ive known from all ove rthe whole and that includes jamaicans. Maybe thinking with that dirty mind needs to be washed out cos fun just means being able to cook for friends old and new .... I thank your strong input and information but to those thinking the nasty thoughts seriously get a grip. I thought this was going to be a relaxed forum of information and smiles but wow to how rude some of you have been. Im not looking to meet men, but if i was honestly its no ones business but mine. My only concern was being able to cook and act like a civilized professinal woman that i am... Smh at the insinuations. Im not a person to randomly invited strangers oh and to make it clear the people i met last time where from the uk, australia and canada...... And yes even jamaicans

Sheba, I don't see where anyone accused you of it being "all about sex".
The answers seemed straight up & fair to me.

    Gotta agree.
I don't see where anyone in this thread mentioned sex, except you!

I was talking about folks walking around the property. I'm assuming if they were there for sex then they'd be in someone's room.

Ease up on Sheba. She asked a legitimate question! Sheba, I've stayed at a well known property on the beach that has EXCELLENT secuirty with a girlfriend and it was no problem having our driver friend come in daily to hang out with us, but we did have to sign him in and out everyday, which wasn't a problem for us!

I can't speak for others but I don't feel I was particularly "hard" on Sheba and I think she read a little more into my response than I said. Sometimes the way people interpet written words has to filter through the way they perceive "Reality" in Jamaica before they can properly digest the message.

If I offended anyone with what i wrote, that was not my intention. I live in and love my country; Jamaica. It took me over two decades of immersing myself in her culture before I had any inkling of the true runnings or just what her flex was.

I have just a brief comment on what you wrote, flfungal. Your signature says you stayed at Hedonism, correct? I was wondering if that is the property you were saying had the "EXCELLENT security" and that you had to signin your driver friend each day? If so, I was wondering if he had to pay to come in or if you had to purchase a Day Pass for him to enter?

I have gone to Hedonism a couple of times and I always had to purchase a Day Pass. If that is so, then your experience is quite different than what Sheba was saying she is looking for as she says she wants them to come and go as she pleases. Just curious.
