I'll start out by saying I love Negril. But, I am only fortunate enough to go 7-10 days out of the year. That's not enough time for me to be educated on the environment and take appropriate precautions for my safety. There is crime where I live too. Worse crime probably. But, I watch the news where I live, read the paper, hear things from friends, etc. I know where to go, where to avoid, what to do, and what not to do. I live here and the culture is not foreign to me. This information educates me so I can make safe decisions and do the best I can not to be a victim of crime where I live. I look at the crime postings about Negril on this web site as a positive thing. Of course there is crime everywhere. But, it helps to provide information to me so when I do go to Negril, I can take care of myself like I do at home. Without that information, I would be oblivious to any danger which may exist in Negril and unable to make safe choices. So, please keep the information about crime coming so I know what's going on in my other home.

I went to Negril last March as a carefree, solo, female traveler, with what I thought was all my guards up.
Did I accept a route taxi rid e, with two guys in front, yes I did.
After an incident with someone on this board, never again.
Did I swim out to the floating dock at Alfreds, which by the way is a lot farther than it looks, with no thought
of the jet skis whizzing close by, yes I did, never again.
Did I answer to many locals asking where am I staying, how long am I staying, yes I did, but never again.
I will return to Negril soon, and while Im not foolish enough to think that nothing could happen to me,
I go feeling a little wiser, and a lot safer, in thanks to this board. For that I thank Rob and Lisa.

Well said. I also appreciate the fact that the crime stories have been allowed to run just for the very reason pointed out by vucko. Knowledge is power; the power to make appropriate decisions for your own safety. I echo the opinion that we use this same knowledge gathered from our local media in our home areas to avoid potential unsafe behavior and unsafe areas within a specified geographic area. Thank you for providing this service. I would also like to thank those who provided information about alternative emergency transportation methods in case of injury - specifically the information about the ambulances and medical airlift options.
