Do you ever arrive to find out....
That your hotel is trying to place you in the worst room on their property
I try to find out before arriving the room location if I can, sometimes getting an informative answer is a challenge
Now when I arrive I always ask to see the room first, then I have the luggage moved
Is it just me ?
at least 4 times I have been down I have had to struggle with the front desk about this
Even at hotels that I have been a repeat customer at
Even when there are lots of vacant rooms available, they try and stick you in a less desirable room
It's frustrating, to start your holiday off with the worst room on the property and to have to complain
To be moved to something better..... looking into say a garbage area or the parking lot
Or say right by the kitchen is not the way I want to vacation, even if the room is just to sleep in
I guess I'm just ranting cause it looks like I'm going through this again this reach at a repeat
Hotel...if they stick me in a dump I'm calling my reservation agent.... Sorry for the rant, it's just
Frustrating to deal with sometimes
Rant over and out
Re: Do you ever arrive to find out....
We have found in our MANY years of travel this has been the way it is. Heck, I guess they figure if they don't say something, score, we have an occupied room that really no one wants. We used to do the go to the room and say, what.....Now before we do anything at check in, we ask for the room location. If a large, unknown, resort, we ask to see it on a map. We have been through this most everywhere we travel, honestly. We don't usually go for the highest category room, nor the lowest. I remember the condo at the back of the Olive Garden parking lot in Orlando, the ocean front room overlooking the parking lot in St Martin, the ocean front room next with the entrance through the bar in Paradise Island. There have been times where a "tip" to the front desk helped. It can be frustrating lugging around luggage, for sure. And even more frustrating when there is not another option, especially in smaller places. Have been having better luck of late. Makes for an easier start to the trip, especially after a long day of travel. Rant understood, indeed.....
Re: Do you ever arrive to find out....
I know lots of folks Love the Seastar,,,But it happened to me there and was Not a mistake. They first tried to tell me I wasn't paid in full,I was. Another person may have just paid and not question?
When I said I paid,,,they never challenged me? Gee,If you said you didn't get the $ then why not ask me to prove it???
Next,I had booked the bigger rooms in the back, they said that they will Upgrade me....Fine....Take me to a "first" floor room by the road with construction going on at the room Next door? Noisy....
I go look at the room I already Paid for and it's a better/bigger room in the back on 2nd floor with a big porch???? I told them we want Our room???? Sorry, but it's true,,,he was Very Slim Shady....

Re: Do you ever arrive to find out....
Fred,
Sorry to hear of your discomfort with SS. I've stayed there 18 times over the last 4 years and have had nothing but excellent results.
I just can't imagine Samatha, Okema, Rachel or especially Chris doing that but who can say. I wasn't there.
I wouldn't stay anywhere else. Just sayin'

Re: Do you ever arrive to find out....
Ok so maybe it's not just me, and yes just a regular room with me is fine, just a decent view is all I'm asking for
Garden view fine , I ain't lookin for beach views
I still remember when Negril gardens ...old pineapple stuck us In a room that I swear was a storage room
No windows on the garden side , as you walk to the nicer 2 story garden spots it was just past the road
And the crazy thing was I was booked for two weeks all inclusive, I of course told them that this was unacceptable
The crazy thing was ..... The place was freakin empty.... Aargh ..........never went back !
Seriously this was a storage room at one time ......unbelievable !
Re: Do you ever arrive to find out....
Several Times...I travel off season, though so usually have a nicer room available. It doesn't usually bother me unless I have paid for an upgraded room and they try to give me something less...This has only happened back in my AI days...Now I usually get a room number when I book.No problem!
Re: Do you ever arrive to find out....
This has happened to us on a couple occasions. Now, we make it a habit to walk through properties during our trips, so we can decide where we might want to stay in the future. So when we make the reservation, we can request the specific room or section. I also follow-up with an e-mail to the hotel just before we arrive, to confirm that we still have that room reserved. It also helps that we try to stay in small hotels where there aren't many room options so they can't pull a "swtich" and stick us in the crappy wing.
