Day 3 January 2014 trip - Seastar and Ricks

Day three started as most days do in Negril, roll out of bed and go get some coffee by the beach. We were doing another beach day today and then making our first trip to the West End to Ricks and Seastar for dinner. The timing wasn't great as we arrived at Seastar about 45 minutes before the buffet started which isn't good when you have a little one. I would do Ricks and Seastar on separate nights next time.

My husband (on his own) made arrangements for a snorkeling cruise with one of the boats. It wasn't the best choice and I will say why on that day of my report.

The day before we saw one of the gals that does hair braiding on the beach (near coco) walking with her baby girl and another baby one year old. I brought a bunch of gently used clothes down that my daughter had outgrown and we told her about them yesterday. So when we saw them today we gave them the three bags It made me feel good because I saw the little girl looking very cute in some of the clothes at the end of the trip.

By the way, we brought our own rafts to coco (I got them off amazon.com) We didnt end up using them too much except for the little penguin. If you do bring them though the towel guy will blow them up for you at coco. That's another weird thing about coco. When we arrived they gave use four beach towel laminated passes and told us we had to use these every day to get our beach towels. Thats not quite how it works. Almost every time we went to the towel shack the guy was gone so most everyone just took whatever towels they needed. Same goes for returning the towels, if he isn't there, nobody was going to wait around until he returned to get their towel cards back. Since they aren't really enforcing the towel cards, they should just do away with them.

My stepdaughter and I decided to walk down to Margaritaville to see what was cooking. They had an all inclusive boat there and people were doing shots, kind of a spring break atmosphere. I noted the nachos were, wait for it, $18.95. However, they were the largest plate of nachos I had ever seen and could feed an entire family. We each got a drink (she had virgin Mango drink) and then went back. I would consider going there to watch sports or use the water trampolines but of course the food is pricey and has more of a Cancun feel to it.

We decided to do the sunset at Ricks. Very good atmosphere, saw the high dive, they had a band, and it is just a must do. I know a lot of people aren't fans but really, its something to see and it is a well run establishment. That being said, I wouldn't do dinner there. Also, not a lot of kids were there.

Once again my daughter loved the singer at Ricks and was the only one dancing.

After the sunset our driver Dean took us over to Seastar. I had the chance to ask him about an incident in Sav La Mar that was kind of frightening. The owner of the haircut place that I sometimes went to here in Wisconsin was shot and killed there last year while he was on vacation. Apparently he got in the middle of a robbery at a bank or something. Dean said he knew about it and that the police had since killed the perpetrators. Not sure of the all the facts but it was certainly tragic.

When we got to Seastar, I knew I was going to like it. First we didnt have reservations and they were going to put us outside of the covered area but ended up making a special table for us by the band. Very nice. I often wondered why everyone was so high on a place that was not on the water. I get it. There is something about a swim up bar that just combines everything I love, relaxing in the pool and drinking. There was a casino near Phoenix that had one Ak-Chin, that I absolutely loved. Granted I remember a few men sitting in the same seat never getting up after five beers (you do the potty math) but hey, throw more chlorine in and lets go! Also just a nice cozy set up.


Didn't really take many photos there. The bands/singers were very good. We left before the drum show. My daughter was obsessed with the pool table and putting the balls in the pockets. Wasn't fun when someone started actually playing pool. We had a hard time corralling her. Also, although they had wireless, I never really found hi speed wireless in Jamaica. The only reason that mattered is sometimes when my daughter gets restless we let her watch PBS kids videos. This didnt work in Jamaica, at least at all the places we tried.

The Seastar food was incredible. The fried chicken and the fried fish were simply delicious. My daughter was happy they had good old Wishbone and Kraft salad dressings but personally I usually like the mayonnaise based with a little ketchup salad dressing we get in Jamaica.

Oh yes and I forgot to mention that we went to Alfreds the night before (left kids at Coco), had a good time and the jerk chicken guy selling on the way out had some good stuff mon!

That mango drink does look excellent, even though I just got in from doing chores and it's freezing out! Your little girl is a cutie. Bet she gets lots of attention.
