funny mix up for the newbies that i sent to negril
My uncle saw me wearing a Negril shirt about a week or so before my last April trip...he had just gotten back from 4 days at an AI, (I think Paladium) for his honeymoon....he said he loved Negril, it was beautiful, everyone was so nice, etc...well he only left the compound for one excursion to ricks and margaritaville....the normal traps....I told him he didnt even see the Real Jamaica, but he likes to be pampered, and he can afford it...he was also worried about safety and all the other worries the AIs drill into their heads...lol...
so this year he just called the other day and they are going again, staying again at the same AI....but they have a couple that are going with them...this couple is going 2 days ahead and wanted my help choosing a place....1st, never met the new couple, but I love talking about Negril, so I called him, and after a little convo, we decided the cliffs would be nice to try....so i sent them pics of catcha, and boom that was it...they wanted the stay here....
well, i sent them the info, and they were gonna book...they found a deal and they booked....only problem, they booked at catcha gardens, not knowing that they were different properties...turns out catcha is booked for their dates anyway....i am more disappointed than they are, because I wanted them to wake up in paradise, not walk across the street to get to it....a newbie, AI type, 1st experience across the street....I suggested Tensing, Mirage, Xtabi, and Blue Cave, but they decided to stick with thte gardens...
I assured them it was a nice property, safe, etc, with lots to do and eat within walking distance...
I suggested 100 candles at Ivans for tuesday night, (the night they arrive) and pub crawl for wed afternoon as a way to see alot of places...
I dont think they can use catcha until supper time, so where would be the best place for someone to walk and enjoy the cliffs....ltu didnt have access last april.....
any advise from those who call the "best end" home?
Re: funny mix up for the newbies that i sent to negril
they'll be fine at catcha gardens and come home bragging about how much money they saved . . . and the fun and relaxation they had
print out the Negril map for them and point out a few things up there --- loads of places to eat and drink
3 dives, xtabi, ciao pizza, Ivans, my new favorite Blue Mahoe (for lunch or dinner), Swordfish, Canoe, the pub crawl
I bet they never see the see the AI folks lol
or better yet - - give them a link to a trip report on this board

If they want to jump into the water have them hit Xtabi. Bit of a walk or a quick cab ride away.
Or they can do the hop, skip, and a jump to Rick's. If they are your Uncle's friends they probably have similar taste.
If it was me it would be Xtabi hands downs.

They will be fine at CFSG!! Jane, Joan and all the crew there will take great care of them. Plus, they will have saved mucho bucks that they can spend having a great time. I have to agree with Seveen. There are many places to hit pon da cliffs. Blue Mahoe is really a top shelf experience! I tried it last visit and was hooked. The food was great!! The drinks were awesome! The view...perfection, as well as the staff. Plus, the price was really not much different than LTU, Xtabi, etc.
Hopefully, they will try more of the low-key places around. Be sure and give them some tips on the local food spots. I love good food...but truly adore the local, small venues along the cliffs. The Blue Mahoe, etc....are for special treats. My favorite spots are usually sitting on wooden benches along the road or hitting the Corner Bar, etc.
No doubt...........it will all be good and maybe BETTER!!!

What a glorious mistake Groove.. Great advice by others. They will be in bliss- Catcha gardens looks wonderful. They are gonna thank you for talking them into seeing and doing a ton of great stuff.

I would think that if they talked to Jane they would be allowed into Catcha during the day, as I am sure they would be spending some dough there for lunch drinks etc. Espeacially if they explain the mix up.

The Paladium is "everything" Negril Isnt? Like some Big Prison for tourist?
Re: funny mix up for the newbies that i sent to negril
A few years ago, some friends of mine decided to stay a few days at the Palladium after the 4 of us vacationed at CocoLaPalm. This was their first trip to Negril. Needless to say, after experiencing the "real" jamaica, the Palladium wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Now these same friends visit Negril at least twice a year and only stay at Coco.
Once you know... ;)
