Consent for Minor

Does anyone know if I would need consent from my son's father to travel to Jamaica? Would I need a notarized letter form him? Anyone had ever had issues bringing their minor children when the other parent is not traveling with them?

Yes. I got a form letter prepared/notarized at a local insurance company. My son's dad had to stop by the office to sign it. I was never asked to produce it (my son was 16), but best have all your ducks in a row.

Looks like it has to be taken care of when getting a passport.
If both parents cannot appear, the absent parent must fill out a notarized consent form, DS-3053, signed no more than three months before the application date.

My kids went to JA recently with their dad, without me. One is 16, the other 19, so it wasn't an issue. But just to be sure I did send a notarized letter with them for the 16 yo.

The Delta rep said it wasn't required but she also said she wished it were, it would "help with child trafficking".

If your child is younger, I am not sure what is needed.

i would recommend it, being divorced and taking my 16 year old 6 years ago for our Jamaican wedding in Jamaica, it was advised, however saying that , there was no questions asked, better to be safe, soon come

I've brought my son at age 7 and 8. I have their mom sign a letter of consent with all of the travel details and video tape it on my phone with the child in view. Have a great trip.
