Funny story from our last full day of a recent trip.

Has to do with constantly getting accused of being scared when you don’t feel like stopping to talk…

We still had to pick up some trinkets from the vendors around the beach and needed some pocket money for our last night. A quick check on funds told us that we were running low on J$. We decide to walk down the beach, then cut through to the road to hit the ATM at Times Sq. I've never been there before but as a habit, try to avoid such tourist traps. As we're approaching, I see all the full size busses lined up with what I assume are busloads of people from the AI's. I make a comment to my buddy, let's just get in and out, I don’t want to be here longer than I need to. So we walk up, successfully dodge all the guys at the entrance, get cash and we're done. Less than five minutes in and out. Great! At some point inside, my bud said something about something to me and all I really remember was that he used the word "scared." Could have been in reference to the bussing in and out of the AI groups. But the thing to note here is that word is fresh in his head.

We get back out to the road and all we want to do is get back to the beach to relax. We're now focused on the traffic and trying to pick our frogger moment when this guy comes over and starts with his spiel. Both of us: "No thanks, we're good, last day, all set etc…" And he's just not letting up...Crossing the street in Negril with a clear head and no distractions is hard enough for me. Now we're all sorts of distracted and getting frazzled. My buddy turns to him and says: "It's our last day, I'm scared." I swear, it happened in slow motion, like one of those moments in a movie where something is going down and all you can muster is "Nooooooo…" So I look at my friend blankly and think to myself, "Maybe the guy didn't catch it. Nah, he didn't hear it." As soon as I finish that thought, the local dude turns to the group of guys he's with and repeats it to them, "It's my last day and I'm scared!" says it two more times and now they're all cracking up. Right at that moment, the traffic breaks and we cross the street.

We get across to the Bourbon Beach parking lot and I ask him, did you just say that? Did you really just say that? Now we're in fits of laughter, literally tears, can't breathe, the whole nine. Now I start ribbing him, "you dumb ba$tard. Who says that? What does that even mean?" I tell him how, in my head, I was hoping that the guy didn’t hear him and he says he was thinking the exact same thing. All we kept talking about was that it would be a great six panel comic strip and the one frame has a shared thought bubble over our heads "Maybe the guy didn't catch it. Nah, he didn't hear it."

It's just one of those stories that if you've never been there, you wouldn't get it, which is why we haven't bothered to tell any of our friends. I thought some you boardies would get a laugh out of it though.

About 2 1/2 years ago I had a first timer down at a music show at the beach park one night. We seemed to be the only 2 non-local girls there. I did know several people that were there and felt completely comfortable but my friend just had a look on her face that screamed "MY FIRST TIME AND I'M TERRIFIED". This seemed too really amuse the local crowd. I was dancing around and talking to people and she was completely frozen but with darting eyes like people were going to get her. This just seemed like encouragement for nearby guys. Needless to say, it wasn't too long before her stomach was "acting up" and she needed to get back to the hotel. I still give her trouble about it to this day! I did get her to return to JA on the reach I have just returned from. She can't handle the whole 10 days but, she's down with 6! lol. Every time we drove by the park on this trip, i would remind her of our FUN evening there!
