My wife and I have stayed at Firefly annually for over a dozen years. Obviously we love it as we've chosen to return year after year. That being said, this is our first visit since new ownership has taken over and there is much to like for both returning and new guests.

The Updates- The entire property is getting or has already had a makeover and has been totally cleaned up. New beautiful bar/restaurant, fresh paint-jobs everywhere, no more materials piled about, new structures for storage, new massage hut, new beach layout providing more space.

The Restaurant- A full service restaurant with delicious food is a great addition to Firefly. The chefs are creative (traditional Jamaican food with their own twist), the waitresses (Stepanie, Tamama and Sharon) are sweet, and it is very nice to have the option to stay on the property and get a great meal. A few of the entrees are a bit pricier than I would expect at Firefly, but the portions are very big. Some of the tables/chairs are in the sand, making for a nice option of eating in the restaurant or on the beach.

New Staff- Of course many of us miss Maxine and some of the other faces that are no longer at Firefly, but change like that is bound to happen with new ownership. However, all of the new people are very sweet and we look forward to getting to know them.

New Suites- Two new higher-end suites have been added. One for two people, and one is for four with a full kitchen. Both look great!

New Security- There are now two full time security staff at all times, one at the beach and one at the road. On the road side a guard shack and security door to the property have been added. Firefly has always felt safe, now it's feels even safer.

New Staffing Level- There are just more people working at Firefly then there used to be. At the bar/restaurant itself there is a bartender, server, chef, dishwasher...this used to be all done by one person. There is now a gardner and maintenance man, this used to be done by one person. There are now two security guards instead of one. In general, the workload seems to be better distributed.

Summary for returning guests: Firefly still has the cozy vibe we've all come to LOVE. The property is receiving much needed care and attention, but those updates haven't changed the character of Firefly. The only adjustment was all the new faces, but as stated earlier, the new staff are all very sweet.

Summary for prospective guests: Firefly is a great spot of the Seven Mile Beach. There's a wide variety of accommodations; new updated higher-end suites, rustic suites and apartments, inexpensive single rooms. It's not a big property, but this creates a very cozy atmosphere amongst the staff and guests. A great place for couples, single adults, groups of adult friends. Everyone tends to get to know each other and it has a feel that many folks connect with and return to year after year. It's not the Four Seasons and if high-end features are your thing then Firefly is not for you. But if you like Jamaican charm from a small independently run property, Firefly may be just what you're looking for.

But bye bye to the C/O beach.

My wife and I stayed previously at Firefly in month of February during years 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009. We decided to stay at White Sands during more recent years.

We will look at new Firefly site next week. We may consider them if price is favorable for what they have to offer, but troubles me to hear Maxine is not there any more.

yeah... would have been nice if they would have kept C/O, it made them unique. They could at least allow c/o in the property, but not that either it sounds like. Too bad.

We will be staying there next week. It was easy making the reservations and all emails have been returned within a couple of hours. I will do a report on them when we return

With Andrea actively involved the place can only get better. While I have zero issue with nudity, the placement in the middle of the beach was not really a good fit. You can still go topless though, unless they have put a curb on that as well.

The new people at Firefly are wonderful! Some are former staff from Whistling Bird! Andrea, Bim, Chris, I always felt super safe with them when I stayed at WB and Andrea is very professional. Last time I was in Negril I toured their new construction and they are adding beautiful furnishings and gardens!! Melissa

I've stayed at many places in a Jamaica and Firefly is my all time favorite. I have a review up somewhere too on tripadvisor. I point everyone in their direction!
