Negril New Free Art School....
A few years ago I ran into a young man named Michael. I had some art supplies and one of the kids took me to meet him. He was providing free art classes for the kids under a tree in the bus park. He told me his dream was to open a school for the kids to learn where they would not get wet. Well he has done it. He has opened a school almost where the tree was. This school is free for all children/teens/adults that want to learn art or practice. We have been working at getting some people to teach workshops and send donations or bring them when they come...here is a list of things needed if you would like to help
paint brushes
acrylic paint actually any kind of paint
art books and video's
frames 4X6 or 5X7
white paper (this is for the beginners to practise)
sketch books
crayola coloured pencils
colouring books and crayons (for the youngest)
pencils and erasers
sharpener that attaches to the wall
the school will be posting it's new hours of operation shortly...Michael is a very humble man who does a lot of the sign painting in town. He started this dream under a tree in the bus park teaching the students if you can help in any way please support this wonderful young man. Who is doing such a good thing for the community....if you cannot carry donations then please stop by the school and purchase some art to help fund this wonderful project....

If you go into the bus park and kitty corner from the entrance. Go behind the shops and you will see it....best way to describe how to get to the Art School
Re: Negril New Free Art School....
Wow....oh wow! I am so thrilled to see this post. I met Michael a good number of years or so back when he was still a teen. I can't remember now how we bumped into each other down on the west end, but had some wonderful chats about art and when I left Negril to return home, I gave him my sketch book and all the art supplies I had with me at that time. He was so appreciative and I knew he would put them to use. Michael is well worth a visit and I know he is going to inspire many a child (and/or adults) who get a chance to spend time with him. Way to go Michael!!
