Travellers location?

Thinking of booking a trip for January. Prices fairly high all over the beach, except for Travellers. Can anyone provide some feedback on the resort? Stayed last year at Treehouse. Travellers obviously on a different part of the beach. Still enough restaurants and bars down that end? Is the beach much different? As for the rooms, just want something clean and safe. Reviews say the food is pretty good at Travellers. My son loves pools, and Travellers pool looks great. Breakfast not included in the price at Travellers, so we'd eaither have to pay or look elsewhere (loved the breakfast at Treehouse). Thanks to all who respond.

We have stayed at Travellers twice now, most recently last May. It is at the far end of the beach closest to the roundabout. The beach front is much smaller than at Tree House but I have always found it sufficient for what we need(somewhere to lay out on a chair is really all we look for). My only caution is that when the river comes in the water in front of Travellers is the first to get "dirty" and the last to "clean up" due to its close proximity to the river. I know there is much debate as to what the cause is but whatever it is, it is not very visually appealing. The pool is wonderful and has a swim up bar for Mom and Dad. The rooms are exactly what you are looking for, clean and safe and the staff has been very helpful and reliable during both stays. There are still plenty of restaurants a close walk away. Try Keney's right next door(attached to Erroll's) for some great Chinese with a Jamaican twist at a very reasonable price . The restaurant at Travellers is good and a fair price. The daily breakfast buffet is a good value for what you are getting. Hope this helps. Have a great trip!!!!

If you are going for a beach holiday, relaxing and lounging on the beach, the Travellers beach is tiny and steeply sloped.

We really liked travellers last may.

We just booked a trip for March and it will be our first time staying here or this close to roundabout. We have been coming to Negril since 1993 and we usually stay at White Sands but policy changes on what rooms we could get to accommodate us and our 11 year old would cost more than we wanted to pay and we thougt why not try some thing different. I read awesome reviews but like you I'm looking for more feedback from my negril.Com peeps. The sea turning dirty is worrisome and if this happens I hope it doesn't last long and is not a daily occurrence. I've read the beach area is big enough so hoping it will remain that way and the pool looks awesome although we mainly stay in the sea, I'm sure my son will love it. The sea water can turn "brownish" after the heavy rains fill the South Negril River and depending on the current, it can go toward the beach or the West End. It is not a daily occurrence. This has been going on since before Negril was Negril. In that incredible photo blog by Robin Farquharson showing photos from the early 70's, he wrote the following in reply to a comment about Negril before the 1960's:

The river water has always been brown. It is caused by the water run off from the hills and the mango trees and leaves from the Great Morass that color the water like tea leaves. Any "debate" is caused by people who simply dont know the facts. It was first documented when the Spanish arrived in Negril around 1494. The color of the river is one of the theories on how Negril got its name.

Thanks Rob, I thought I had heard that it usually only occurred after heavy rains which usually doesn't occur much during our March stays. I figure it can't be any worse than swimming in Indiana lake water but would hate to not see/swim in the blue sea most of my vacation. Sounds like it won't be an issue, I've seen the debates over the water and have never worried about it.

Staff and management at Travellers are great. I've stayed in a superior room and a one bedroom suite. The only things I didn't like was staff moved the lounge chairs off the beach starting just after 4pm....don't expect to go down and sit on a lounger to watch sunset. There were no chairs along the beach, unless you're in the restaurant or at the bar. There are some hard sand bags you can perch on. Loved the rooms. They have a very nice managers cocktail party with lots of good eats. Enjoy!
