I know that demolition is continuing. Has there been any confirmation of what has been approved for construction. 4 stories, over water bungalows, etc?

I'm also curious about how demolition/construction is progressing at Grand Lido. Its our "off season" place to go, but sadly not this year. I'll miss the old place. Any idea how long this whole project will take?
Copied this photo from another forum. Looks like it's going to be awesome. Attachment 42125
Looks like the proposed over water cottages are beyond where the Grand Lido property formerly ended.
Thanks for this! Yes, it looks like it will be awesome, but also looks EXPENSIVE! It looks like it will give Sandals and Couples some stiff competition. We used to get great deals off season, I think those days will be gone. We couldn't afford Grand Lido, but started going there when it was Breezes, then Grand Lido again in the last couple of years. Over the water cottages? wow!

"Mrs. Issa’s concerns come against the background of reports that the Grand Lido Hotel in Negril has been granted permission to build 600 rooms, which is an added 384 rooms to an already overburdened Negril infrastructure. Further yet, the Ministry of Environment has now said they will keep the setback at 150’, but will allow less under “special circumstances”. The Ministry is yet to clarify what constitutes “special circumstances”.
Approval has also been given to build higher buildings - 4 stories instead of 3. Mrs. Issa asked Jamaicans to imagine 1,200 guests on the beach now instead of 432.
“The hotel is also showing images of rooms to be built over the water as well damaging sea life and sea grass beds.” – she said."
This does not sound "Awesome".
I agree with Barb111, not "awesome"..
+ 3 ...on the non- awesome scale
they paved paradise & put up a AI
Does it add jobs to the local economy ..yes..
but that's about the ONLY +
ok... by "awesome" I meant beautiful. Does it belong in Negril...NO. Too big, too much impact on the environment.
