A gift for a chef??
So this time around iam going to jump in the kitchen with Gwen so that I can learn some things from her.. Seriously the best food I had on the island and the world.. As a thank you I wanted to get her a kitchen gift.. I have a gift certificate to a kitchen store here so it'd be perfect.. Any ideas?? Iam thinking a new chefs blade would be nice.. Lemme know what u guys think.. What kind of stuff is expensive over there and hard to find! Thanks!!

Re: A gift for a chef??
If you don't mind me asking how much is the gift certificate worth? I am just asking because that would determine what kind of gift you could get.

Re: A gift for a chef??
Well it's only 25$ but I was going to at least double it.. They are special to me and I want to show my appreciation

Re: A gift for a chef??
And I can get a really nice blade here for around 100$

Re: A gift for a chef??
You can't go wrong with a Chefs knife. A serrated paring knife is a good thing. A good honing steel is also a kitchen must have

Re: A gift for a chef??
Great thanks! I didn't think of a honing steel I've got an extra one in great condition

Re: A gift for a chef??
No matter how good the knife, you got to keep it sharp. Cooks Illustrated had an issue on knife sharpeners. Chef's Choice won 1st and 2nd for electric and manual sharpener to boot. The manual is Chef's Choice 463 Pronto Santoku/Asian Manual Knife Sharpener for $33 on Amazon. Sweethome had a review of chef's knives at http://thesweethome.com/reviews/the-...or-most-cooks/. I've found Sweethome and thewirecutter.com to be great places for gadget and gear reviews. Whatever you decide to do, you're showing maximum respect, mon! --Marblehead
Almost forgot. Who is Gwen and where does she cook?

Re: A gift for a chef??
Really good advice here! A good knife would seem appropriate, and yes, maybe a blade sharpener too if you can swing it. I'm sure your generosity will be much appreciated.

Super stoked! Just picked up a 7" shun santoku for her! Hope she likes it as much as I do
