Just wondering how the sidewalk project is going. To me it was one of the greatest improvements to safety in Negril. Last time I was in Negril was early March in 2015 and it was mostly done.

it REALLY would be nice
if they'd build the sidewalk all the way to Lucea town
Most of the sidewalk is complete now...with the exception of the decorative bridges/archways they are completing.
Hope it brings lots of business to the Mom and Pop restaurants. I plan to use that sidewalk a lot next week!
The sidewalk was almost complete on our last trip. It actually looks pretty darn good considering most island construction. ;)
We walked it nearly every day and it is a vast improvement from walking the road. The best part was, no more constant beeping from all the taxi drivers. :)
My favorite memory of the sidewalk construction (thus far) was on December 3, 2013 we were walking from Rondel Village down to Red Dragon. We were walking along the mostly unfinished sidewalk. About 6 guys were working on the sidewalk, laying bricks, smoothing pavement, etc. When we got there they asked us to buy them a queue (sp??) of rum because they were building the sidewalk for us, the tourists. We said, "no, we're good, we're just walking down to our favorite bar." One of them yelled out to us,"Ya Mon, buy rum, it's my Birtday." I said, "really, what is the date today?" He replied "December 3rd." I came back to him. That's right, and today is our 20th Anniversary, so here's 500J, go get you some rum." "Happy Anniversary" they all said and off we were to the Red Dragon. Was it really his "birtday?" We'll never know, but at least he knew what day it was and we were in a good, celebratory mood and it was damned hot out there working on that sidewalk.
Well, let's put it this way.
I didn't smash my toes on any of those ubiquitous 2" steps or thresholds that I usually find out about the hard way. I didn't whack my head on any part of it. There were no loose bricks that you could stumble on and turn your ankle. It was flat and relatively smooth. Heck, it was even level for the most part.
The bridges that are built over the culverts are not exactly ADA compliant but, I bet they would be fun on a skateboard or BMX bike. :)
The thing I was really happy to see...........there were no horses on it.
Maybe no horses; but last month I saw a car drive on it to circumvent an accident on the road and a couple of motor-scooters as well.
