Island Phone Rentals
Been to Negril several time and never needed a phone. This time we are bringing our two teenagers and would like to give them a little freedom yet be able to stay in contact with them. Our taxi driver has one we can use. We would like to rent a second phone. Has anyone use this company locate at the airport or is there some where cheaper-better? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Island Phone Rentals
Reach out to your taxi driver and tell him you need a 2nd phone --- I would bet he will come up with one.

Re: Island Phone Rentals
It would be cheaper to buy a phone or at least the same cost.
If your driver doesn't have a second phone option...you could ask them to purchase the cheapest one available for you (which you would pay for), purchase a sim card and some minutes for the phone and in return for picking it up etc, you could leave the phone with your driver as a "gift".

Re: Island Phone Rentals
If you have unlocked phones you can buy a sim card from one of the carriers and then just buy minutes as needed. We have been doing that with our iPhones for years.

I think I will bring an old Iphone 4, get a sim card then leave the phone with our driver . Thanks for the advise!

Re: Island Phone Rentals
I thought I heard that after a certain model, all iPhones came unlocked. Not sure if it was the 4 or 5, but might be worth confirming before you get to Negril. If it's locked, your carrier will help you unlock it for free.
We use a Blackberry curve (must be close to 10 years old now) when in Jamaica. Before I initially brought it to the Digicel store to get a SIM card, I called AT&T back home and had it unlocked (actually, I used the online chat). It's served us well for over 4 years, but on our last trip it started dropping calls/shutting down after a few minutes of talk time. I may have to unlock another phone to use on the next trip. We have an old Motorola Blackflip that might be fun.
