Negril Education Environment Trust (NEET) Tablet Program

The Amazon Tablet program is for school-aged children in Negril. For a $50 donation, an Amazon 7 Fire Tablet will be donated to an underprivileged school-aged child. Tablets will be personally distributed by our team on July 21, 2018. So far, due to the generosity of others, we have provided 48 tablets since November 2017. Our goal this year is to donate 100 tablets in 2018.

The Negril Education Environment Trust (NEET) is a non-profit organization based at Travellers Beach Resort in Negril, Jamaica. In 2003, the organization was founded to address the country’s need for educational support and resources. NEET is committed to strengthening the social fabric of Jamaica through programs that expand educational access for children and adults, partnerships that address our public and environmental health, and events and activities that celebrate Jamaica’s rich heritage. NEET achieves its mission through the provision of three programs, Island-wide Book & Computer Distribution, Computer Literacy, and the Medical Mission. Students are required to provide community services, such as collecting plastic containers and bags along the beach. The tablet program requires students to learn how to type without looking at the keyboard.

Thanks Bnewb, one of the great things about Negril.com is the opportunity to learn about some of the positive things happening in Negril.
I first read about NEET on this board a few years ago, but it wasn't until I stayed at Travellers last year until I saw the awesome program they have, and attended one of the Saturday morning class sessions with the children.

I donated 14 tablets before I saw the program in action, but was moved to do even more after seeing Mr. Wellington and the children during the class. Their program teaches personal responsibility and require community service to be in the program.

Out of curiosity (because I think this is a great program), the children who are given tablets... do they , or how do they , have access to internet services so they can use them at home?

From NEET: Each parish has a public library that students can use for free wifi. Also, parents or neighbors may have access to a wifi box. Both Flow and Digicel offer data plans, and some cell phones can be used as a hotspot for wifi.
