Has anyone flown in to Jamaica on a one-way ticket, and if so do the immigration folks in the airport give you a hard time?

Yes.. and yes...
So, umm, did they let you in? Advice? Should I buy a return ticket? Coming Aug 3 and staying ~1 month this time. If I really need to in order to get in, I'll take a guess and buy a return ticket for Aug 31. But I'd prefer to stay flexible.
Rtitle...you need a return ticket!
If you don't have a return ticket...sometimes they'll send you back home...most of the time they will allow you to purchase a ticket right there in immigration.
You need proof of a return ticket if they ask and since you're staying for an extended period...your chances are higher that you'll get asked for proof.
Thanks for the replies.
I'm actually applying for permanent residency next week, at the PICA office in MoBay. Based on Jamaican spouse. (Already have one :)). I spoke with someone from PICA on the phone today and that's how they advised me to do it. But I have to get into the country in the first place to apply in MoBay. So I'll get that return ticket. I'll be going back and forth anyway for a while, until I permanently move...
I don't know if this helps as it's years ago.
We would buy a round trip ticket for a return date 10 months out.
I would fly in and out of MoBay booking in Jamaica for Jamaican dollars
I had full time residency at the time
All the best

Got my return ticket to make it a Aug 3-Aug 31 trip.
Was thinking of taking a "nested" round-trip MBJ-Toronto-MBJ in mid-August to visit my parents. But I fear that would confuse the customs & immigration people on both ends. Maybe I'll skip it to avoid problems.
I wish the world was borderless. "Human being, citizen of the planet Earth" is how I want to answer nationality questions. Sigh ...
Rtitle...most everything is computerized now...it shouldn't be confusing to anyone.
You're legally allowed a total of a 180 day stay in a calendar year in Jamaica...unless you have citizenship, residency, a work permit, etc to stay longer.
I should mention for those that don't know and are wanting to stay for approx. 6 months...the airport immigration will not give you more than 90 days. Once you're in Jamaica...you will then have to apply at Montego Bay or Kingston immigration for a further 90 day stay.
I can’t wait for the day when this is a problem for me.
