ACKEE in Florida ! !

We are truly blessed to have a wonderful Jamaican neighbor in SWFL who shares her ackee with us. She has a HUGE tree in her yard with a plentiful crop this year. We had been going by boat past her house for a while admiring her ackee tree and waiting to see her outside. One day we were fortunate to see her outside so we struck up a conversation. She was amazed that we knew about ackee. We are the only non-Jamaican in FLA she had ever met who even HEARD of ackee much less knew when to pick it and how to prepare it.

She should probably get out more. Lots of non-Jamaicans here know about and cook Ackee every season.

I'm jealous - I've been living off canned ackee since April...
