Going to church in Jamaica
Going to church while in Jamaica is an adventure. It takes us 3 route taxis and about 45 minutes to go the roughly 36 KM to Strath Bogie, on the other side of Sav. We started going there almost 10 years ago. I have written other stories about Calvary Baptist Church of Strath Bogie for Negril.com. One post got the attention of a pastor from Michigan that was looking for a church to partner with in Jamaica. That church has sent down numerous people and money to help with evangelism, vacation bible school and food distribution. We always get a warm welcome when we visit. Every time we go we see something new for the first time. Once it was giving a parishioner change from her offering. Another time it was an agape feast, what we might call a Baptist pot luck. We were there 2 Sundays this year. The first Sunday they had the ordinance of communion. Now we have taken communion many times, but this time it came in an all in one disposable package with the wafer on top. The next Sunday we saw our first Jamaican immersion baptism. What a nice day spending time with other believers. Another thing we did before our trip this year was make up a gospel tract with a photo that I had taken last year. We gave them to taxi drivers, waitresses, shop keepers and other people we met. It is a catchy little title: “How to get to heaven from Negril”. They were well received.
Regards,
Bob
