I have been making trips to all the beaches for the past few weeks and have not seen any sargassum anywhere. Small patches are affecting Puerto Rico today:

Rest assured, Negril is no being bothered by seaweed. I called Royalton, Boardwalk Village Resort, Charela Inn and Travellers and they are taken back that someone would compare the situation in Belize, which gets the direct eastern Atlantic current hitting their beaches, while the Negril beach is protected by the Western prevailing currents that block the seaweed.
My advice is to skip the seaweed in Belize and enjoy the seaweed free beaches of beautiful Negril!

My first visit to Negril was in 1975, 50 years gone by, and in the dozens of trips to 7 Mile Beach since then I cannot recall seaweed being any issue. Yes, some very minor residue at the high water line in the early morning but that was raked up by the properties and nothing even remotely a problem. Furthermore, I have never encountered seaweed anywhere in Jamaica, come to think about it!!

Yet I pay high dollar for kelp seaweed to feed my ganja plants because it has all the trace nutrients in all the right ratios.
if Belize would use equipment to collect and compost all that seaweed, they could probably be an agricultural powerhouse.

This was early February 2024. What a stinking mess that took almost a week to clean up.
