Has anyone heard if the train is going to be put back in service on the island?.
Would be cool-I've been thru the country and seen some of the old tracks(esp up at Montpelier the old station and historic spot)...But I guess it's along ways away from happening...But would love to be proved wrong..Actually on another mess.board someone posted fabulous video footage of the train going thru Mobay and the countryside..not sure of that date but it was awhile ago..Really cool..
nobody can afford it, tracks are real bad........we took the ride to the Appleton Factory, stopped in Catadupa to be fitted with hand made clothes, which we picked up on the way back....and stopped in a cave complex, one hell of a nice day trip....BIG Drunk on the way down......we rode up front and I got to bring it into a stop on the way up....Attachment 10170Attachment 10171Attachment 10172Attachment 10173
few years back, there was some talk about bringing it back, but never went any farther, it was the best views of the Hills that w ever had, looking down you could see all the "stolen" metal traffic signs used to patch roofs......
I wonder how Catadupa got it's name. Some years ago I heard a rumor that the Chinese were proposing a cross country railroad.

Looked over and there was a large plant I guess you would call it, with Chinese writing all over the place and large equipment like you would see in the states. The Jamaican Railway Corporation did some refurbishings in 2011 and actually did run the train from MayPen to Spanish Town – here is a video link to the April 2011 inaugural run. It appears that the JRC (controlled by the JA Govt) is seeking to either privitize the railway or seek international joint venture investors.

I rode on the original train in the mid 1980’s ….. departed MoBay in the morning and arrived in downtown Kingston in the afternoon. It was an interesting experience – quite a few vendors boarded in MoBay with drinks, food, etc and went as far as the midway point where they disembarked and took the afternoon train back to MoBay (and the same was true in reverse for the train from Kingston to MoBay). And as Rambo noted, there were businesses at the midpoint that sold many things (including custom made clothing to measurement).
