Anyone ever fish from the beach? I'm coming down with two buddies who are bringing small collapsable fishing poles. Trying to talk them out of it, but they insist :)

I've seen people with nets but they only seem to catch the tiny fish near the shore. I'd think that it would be better off the cliffs somewhere JMHO
My husband always takes along his fishing gear when we stay up on the cliffs....nice way to start a morning in Negril :)
Nice :) does he catch anything?
we tried fishing in belmont about 1 hour away 2 weeks ago, we chucked crankbaits for an hour, got a few follow ups by some gar fish, we were told to fish with small shrimp maybe under a thin float, we will try it next feb, i would probably go off the warf by the roundabout, or ask someone with a boat to take you out to the reef, soon come
fish of cliff....use squid or cut up bait fish.......early morning
Yes we always fish right by the lighthouse, and we've done pretty good!! and it's sooo fun!
I've fished from the beach a few times but mostly on the cliffs. Did very well this year off the shore at Negril Escape. Get a pack of frozen uncooked shrimp from the HiLo. Use a medium sized hook, tie a knot in the line about a foot up and put a couple pea sized split shot behind the knot. Cut the shrimp in 1/3's stick it on the hook. Carry out a plastic chair, till the water reaches the seat. Fire the shrimp out as far as you can. Sit down, lite ur spliff and wait. Good thing to bring is one of those little plastic tackle boxes to hold hooks and split shot, one of those little tools with pliers and a knife and **** in it. Carry the shrimp in a ziplock bag.
