We took advantage of the farmers market taking place the last wednesday of every month
Prices were low and quality was high.It was very busy with locals, resorts and tourists.
There prices were all agreed upon amongst farmers and prices were shown on one board

The housekeeper at my hotel told me she'd been to the Farmer's Market last week and it was wonderful! We'll try to make it on our next trip!

We bought 3 pineapples for $490 J.
Great price!

Now that's what I like to see - fresh fruit and veggies with consistent clearly displayed prices! Removes that "tourists pay more" perception for shoppers.

Last summer the farmers market was the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Is the last Wednesday the new time? Every Wednesday would be great!

Well, it was last week.....which was the FIFTH Wednesday in February, LOL! I saw the booths set up a couple weeks ago, I wonder if its been happening 2x/month in tourist season?
Love the posted prices, although I didn't see the sign until I was done shopping, LOL.
Best-tasting watermelon I've had in JA was from that market last week. Wished I'd bought a whole one!

Looks wonderful. I often buy fresh veg from a man who parks his station wagon full of produce at the end of Wharf Road. I sometimes shop in Lucea but it is not always convenient and I have had some issues with the price "variance." I like the posted prices, gives me reference point and I can plan my purchases. My friend doesn't understand why I need to know the cost of things in advance, to him "it is what it is - either you get it or you don't." But he grows much of his own food. As I hope to retire someday and would like to spend much of my time in JA, it behooves me to learn what it may cost. There is nothing better than to go out in your yard & pick fresh mango, breadfruit and in his case, okra. I never liked okra until I had it fresh from the plant in Jamaica.
