Re: Negril river in trouble!
So very sad!! I recall a posting several months ago regarding some problems...hopefully, something will be done to rectify the situation. As with all over the world, we must respect Mother Nature and all she provides for us. Thanks for the info...respect...
Re: Negril river in trouble!
Yetta, I went back a while and saw that a new "water treatment" or "sanitation plant" is in works, since 2011. One of the fishermen on the video mentioned something that might help a bit quicker, which was removing some of the silt that's stopping water from flowing and pushing some of this stuff out to sea. Not being an expert, I wonder if the pollution leak is so bad that if it was pushed out to sea, would it foul other areas? I don't know, but I, like you am hoping! You are welcome, Blessings...
Re: Negril river in trouble!
Has anyone tested the waters on 7 mile beach lately ??? Thats where the river water goes out to....Just because it looks crystal clear doesnt mean its not contaminated...
Re: Negril river in trouble!
The links provided above are for the OLD story that Yetta mentioned that happened back in February. The date those stories aired was February 2nd, 2012. The above information is not correct.
Here is a link to the story from May 10th, 2012:

The story only mentioned "several specimans", not the tons that was mentioned above. Here is the statement:
"NEPA received a report just after 10:00 am that several specimens of dead fish were seen floating down the river towards the sea and that fishermen in the area were collecting fish that appeared to be stunned."
