I know most of us don't keep up with or notice this as it is a silent thing included in your airline ticket....but somewhere along the line, the taxes going in and out of Jamaica went up about 30.00, when did that happen???

When the Jamaican government passed it.
Ouch
Misti,
It wasnt "silent" but a rather hotly debated issue earlier this year in Jamaica. There were several different tax versions suggested until this one passed the Jamaican legislature. Here is a link to a previous discussion right here on the Negril Message Board in June!

Thanks Rob, now I am caught up. Well I have co workers that gripe about the visa costs to Brazil, but at least once you pay it one time it is good for about 5 years. but as often as I go in and out this is really going to add up to something over the course of a year, but pay it I will. No choice.
Misti,
Most countries have very similar taxes - that are on a "per visit" basis, not on a yearly or 5 year basis, but they do tend to call them something different in each country. What Jamaica is charging is far from anything unusual...
I Hate all the taxes I pay in Canada, however I don't seem to mind making my contribution to Jamacia, I still can't seem to wrap my head around the fact I said that , but somehow I feel better about the taxes I pay helping JA to improve the infrastructure, I really noticed clean-up along the highway to Negril, and hope someone got paid to do that hard work
Spoken like a true Canadian, Canuk cpl! I hear ya! And I agree wholeheartedly. I don't mind paying to help out the country that has given us so much joy!
