travel insurance questions
a close friend of mine needs a kidney transplant, and will be going through the V.A.in minneapolis,mn.to get one.when you get one through the V.A.,you have to have a support person travel with you when you go to the hospital ,for three weeks,in the town where he has the surgery, making sure he gets to all his post op appointments, and then get the person home safely on the plane.that support person would be me.ive already booked my plane reservation to jamaica for jan 29th to february 19th,with frequent flier miles.we go october 24th to pittsburg to meet the surgins and go through all the stuff that we need to know when a kidney becomes available.then we fly back to mpls.and wait for a kidney to become available.heres my question.is there an insurance policy that will cover my ticket if he goes in before my date to go to jamaica,or, if one becomes available while im in jamaica, will it pay for me to return to mpls.to fly him to pittsburg for the transplant? thanx in advance for your help
Re: travel insurance questions
Mud,
I know you can purchase insurance that will allow you to 'cancel for any reason'. I do know that it will cost more to do so. What I do not know how they will handle the airfare that was purchased with frequent flyer miles. You will have to ask the insurance company that question. Hope that helps!

Mud,
Sorry mis-understood your last question ... read it too fast ... my bad. That would be a question I would want to ask an agent directly.

Mud:
If you haven't done so already, suggest you check with the airline you will be flying with - they may offer suggestions for obtaining such insurance.
Best wishes to your friend - my 72 y/old brother in law is scheduled for a kidney transplant on Oct 1/12 (his son is the kidney donor); he is currently doing daily peri dialysis at home (thank God for the Canadian Kidney Foundation who fund all costs including the loan of a computerized dialysis machine and all needed supplies). My b-i-l had a heart transplant almost 20 years ago and has done wonderfully well with the heart, but now his kidney's have failed (partly due to the anti rejection drugs he has to take for his heart). I don't know about the US, but in Canada there is a long waiting list for kidneys and it can take many months from the time they are put on the transplant list until their name comes up. Good luck and may Jah bless both of you!
