Coffee question for the experts - Re: vacuum seal bags
I am planning to bring home some fresh roast beans from one of the local roasters next trip. I bought a few of the bags with the one way degassing valve to transfer the coffee to after reading a previous thread about coffee. These bags are vacuum type and have the zip lock type resealing strip.
Is it necessary / important to vacuum seal the bags to help preserve the freshness?

LLAP, if you can yes. Oxygen degrades coffee so getting it out of the bag will only help preserve the quality/taste of the coffee.

In an earlier thread I had read that. The thread also said the coffee gave off C02. I was wondering if the CO2 would replace the O2 in the bags and as long as it was zip locked it might be O.K.
My initial check into vacuum sealers did not turn up any cheap ones.
Thanks

LLAP simple answer is yes ... hence the 'one way degasing valve'. That valve allows the CO2 to escape and with it will push the oxygen out. Hope that helps!

Yes, thanks. I will keep looking for an inexpensive sealer anyway. But for the amount I will be bringing home I believe the degassing bag will probably suffice.
