worlds collide in my computer room
Buffalo Soldiers were incorporated in 1866 and fought Indian wars through 1870's

My grandfather was someplace between Roosevelts Rough Riders and WWI
When he passed in the 70's I brought some of his horse tack from his service home
Not long ago I hung it from one of the first carvings I ever bought in Jamaica, just for a place to have it close in my memory
I realize the Lion of Zion and Buffalo Soldiers and my grandfathers service and my travels to Jamaica are all far removed from each other but still when I reflect it gives me a feeling of symetary

Nice! Family memories are always the best. Plus, every likkle ting in this world is inter-related. Out of many....one people. Bless and love.

Oh it's me poolguy, most of the time when I ride through this board I have left the harsh left brain realities of every day business life and I am sharing from the right brain escapist mind.
Years ago before trip reports I used to do "rambles", they were stream of concious thoughts without periods paragraphs or question marks, drove some people to distraction, I am not very good at "we went to, we had",,,,,,,,. I lost my rambles in a computer melt down in 2005, funny thing is a friend had kept hard copies of my Jamaica and some other subjects and brought them up a few years ago,,,,,, l.o.l. watch out Kerouac
My personality type is off the charts intuitive, I sometimes have a habit of going to the destination w/o sharing the route I took to get there.
Hmmmmmm,,,,,, Buffalo Soldiers, part of American history, the medallions by the ears of the horse harness are US, a harsh time in our history but a time of adventure. My grandfather served during the "speak softly but carry a big stick" era, the horse tack he brought home had the US medallion on it, this was a time in our history that we did our first world tour showing our might to the world, a time of adventure, my grandfather always spoke of the shear #'s of the Chinese nation and for that reason what a formibal foe they might make, the English brought Chinese supervisors to Jamaica at the beginning of colonization to run the business side of the plantation they are still on the Island today. I began going to Jamaica and part of my travels included delving into the Rastafarian Movement and found the Lion of Judah and it's context to Solomon to be intrigueing, my first carving was a lions head from a Rasta carver, I have many other pieces from him today, many reflecting his transition to more peaceful and flowing thoughts (fish) and of course the various pieces of my village.

One of the biggest international proponents of the Rasta Movement was a guy named Bob Marley, one of his stories is about being "stolen from Africa brought to America, fighting on arrival, fighting for survival,,,,,,, when I analyze the stench to me this makes a lot of sense" .
Back to my family endentured servants that sold themselves into servitude to come to America, some followed their Indian families from the Carolinas to Oklahoma on what is now refered to as "The Trail of Tears" in 1830's some of which those Buffalo Soldiers may have been policing.
The medallion on the Buffalo Soldiers tack, the medallion on my grandfathers tack, the parallel journies, my ending up walking part of the same earth that Marley grew from,,,,, symetary? I don't know, feels right to me.
I say with a smile I don't mean to dash your hopes, but you are probably never going to find me sharing "then we walked down to and,,,,,,"

Sometimes I can see the route but I am never quite sure where it will all end up.... and then I say "ah ha!"
I enjoy your posts, having no expectations but just flowing along to see where it all ties together.
PEACE.
Re: worlds collide in my computer room
I'm glad you have won many awards in your lifetime Chet but they probably weren't for clarity. Sometimes I get you sometimes not. You don't have to explain. But I hope you keep it going.
Re: worlds collide in my computer room

Not to step on anyone's beliefs.
In it's very simple form The Lion of Judah was the symbol of the Israelite Tribe
In the line was David & Solomon (and yes Jesus who in places was also refered to as The Lion of Judah).
Now if you have never read this history it is a great story, many many variations,,, rich queen, smart man, seduction, thief in the middle of the night
A rich queen (Queen of Sheba) goes with gifts to test he (Solomon) who they are saying is the wisest man in the world. Who seduced who? One good story has her promising not to steal from his house and in return he would not take advantage of her, he comes to her chamber, she takes a drink of water, he says you have taken my water the most precious of all materials, she relents and sleeps with him. She went back to Ethiopia with child (in places another part of the story is the child went back to visit dad and ended up bringing the Ark of the Covenant back to Ethiopia).
That child being of the lineage of David adopted the Lion of Judah into the Ethiopian crest.
When the Rastafarian Movement declared Haile Salassie I the coming of the Messiah, going back to Genesis and in Revelations where it talks of a Lion coming he picks up the name Lion of Judah.
Once again I do not wish to minimilize anyones beliefs, this is just the reason for the name as I understand it, I am always open to learnig from those that know more.
Re: worlds collide in my computer room
Ok like I said I always read them wondering if its just me, thanks for the clarifiction, I think?
