Palms Resort Review
Hey people,
My friends think I know it all when it comes to Negril and I don't change their minds. So now that one has a boo, they want to plan a trip (I've only tried for 3 years to get them to go but who am I). Anywho they want to stay at the Palms Resort and they've come to me. The most I've ever done at the Palms was have a drink or three. Anyone here stay there? Thoughts? Is there a review you've posted somewhere I can read so when I give her my response I can sound like the Negril pro she thinks I am:cool:

My cousin stayed there last year for 5 days, and she said there is a big difference in the new rooms and the old ones. She was not happy with her room, and felt mislead about the differences beetween the two classes of rooms. Staying solo, she felt cramped in the space and said had she been with her boyfriend they would have had to get a bigger room. She did say that the staff was nice, and the food and drinks good.
The last time I was in Negril I went with friends for the Sunday dinner and jazz, and enjoyed it so much a couple of us went back for lunch and to enjoy their pool, bar and beach. Everything was great - food, facilities, pool, staff. I asked to see the rooms and it's true that the new rooms are much nicer than the basic ones. (I'm one of those people who, when I like the vibes at a place I ask to see rooms and make a mental note for future travel plans.) From what I've seen and my cousin's report, I know that I would be comfortable staying in one of the nicer rooms. I doubt I'd stay in one of the less expensive ones unless I had an option to upgrade if I didn't find it acceptable. Also check reports on tripadvisor.com - my cousin said she checked their reports and hoped that they were wrong about the basic rooms but that they were really spot-on in terms of the differences in room categories.

Thanks!!! What about Merrill's? Anybody?????? This one I'm asking for in regards to me!

I stayed at Merrills 2 a few years back and liked it for a smaller Ai mid beach ( better in my opinion that legends). My only thought would be that if you are planning on going with only you and your baby, it might be kinda isolated... meaning no JA guests on property and most other guests non english speaking. That was really my only complaint about merrills...it was hard to meet any of the other guests due to language barriers. But if you are just gonna chill and then head out to socialize, I think it is fine.

Hmmm that may not work. My sister is going in a couple of weeks and whereever I find for her to stay, I'm going to stay when I go. I'm not a go out and meet people kinda girl as I'm actually kinda shy (don't look so shocked). So Merrills is out. So the Palms for my friend and her boo (she doesn't want to do AI as she wants to feel the people (her words))? Nothing spectacular is the vibe I'm getting. I'm still leaning towards Treehouse. Problem is there are too many places on the beach and not enough time and money for me to visit them all!!! My search will continue!

@Delta - For reviews, other than info from someone you know, TripAdvisor is pretty good - but like the olympics, you have to throw out the best and worst ones and go with the majority.
I stayed at Treehouse my very first trip - when I was a solo. Just an idea - they have a few multi-bedroom rooms, where you could all stay together - unless the boo cries too much for you to get that necessary morning sleep.

Re Merrills II....Umm Well..Let's see...All I can say is that it's not MY cup of tea.. I attempted to stay there after 4 days at Coco La Palm (did a coco/merrills split), I checked in and pretty much checked out after lunch. Room's were clean but dark, the pool was TINY and filmy, the people were not friendly, I did not see security on the grounds, and the over all vibe of the place was a total blah. I didn't even get a chance to unpack- Moved right back to Coco.. Now maybe if I would have stayed there first and THEN tried CCLP it would have been different... BUt I will say this, the brown stew chicken they served for lunch was awesome..LOL

Delta, I have some pics of the grounds and the room I stayed in at the Palms....I will post on my lunch hour. It is a lovely spot, but I recently visited their website and noticed that their prices have increased ALOT since I stayed there. I can't remember if I got a deal or something?? Not sure I would pay what they are asking currently.

Thanks everyone. This just confirms that I need to stay with my first mind (it's usually right) and stay at Treehouse. I was just trying to get a cheaper comparable.

This is one of the renovated rooms, upstairs, closest to the ocean. The unrenovated rooms are in the other building, I believe.

This is the best room in the place, IMHO
