depending on your plan you may need to request your provider activate international roaming for you to pick up signal... i've had bell and telus work for me, am assuming my fido will work too... you may need to work a little harder to push data to the blackberry, but they are alive and well in Jamiaca and a world edition should be able to pick up the correct provider to get data service if absolutely necessary...
but i never use home cell as the rates are just as ridiculous... 1.99 per minute long distance and 1.99 per minute roaming is the norm... do a search for digicel.. 1000 minutes for 999J (about 12US) takes an unlocked dual (North American), tri or quad band phone (either yours or one purchased there) and a digicel SIM card (7USish) to use... but no other hidden fees (other than taxes)... Incoming calls and texts are free (to you) on digicel, outgoing texts are reasonable... very very affordable and flexible...
Hope that helps...
Borrowed infomation
Thanks for the info, never thought to check into it before we left, pretty much just need it to upload photos,oh well it can wait till we get home!!
You should still be able to upload photos from your iPhone, if you connect it to the WiFi network at your hotel or nearby restaurant. Just buy a drink and ask your server for the password.
Besides, you don't want to use your Bell Canada data plan, while international roaming. The charges will be outrageous.
Put your phone on airplane mode and use wifi only or you will go home to massive data roaming charges.
take the battery out of your North American cellies so as not to chance any roaming etc costs......
plenty of places to get a cellie in Negril........rent or buy etc........cheap calling home......
mi usually around No Limit Bar on the Cliffs and usually have an extra cellie if someone needs one......
