Car rental needed
I will be traveling to negril with my family and will appreciate a small car for two weeks. The prices from the MoBay agencies are way too high especially to deliver the car and pick up the car in Negril. Please let me know of avreasonable car rental in Negril for the two week period. ($300.00 usd)

Good luck, but that price will get you one week maybe. Check out Island Cruisers. They are right in Negril. Here is their website: http://www.islandcruiserjamaica.com/..._specials.html

for that kind a cash and related expenses like gas, you might get a private driver

That's about the rate for a scooter for 2 weeks. Good luck finding a car for that. If you do not need any insurance you may come close, but you will most likely be driving a wreck.

I think that's around what I paid in 1975 to rent a car

Right at the airport check, online, Island and Hertz. You'll need a World Master Card gold or better level to cover the CDW, but you can get near that price for two weeks. Maybe $375. I always rent when I'm there, and it gives me a lot of freedom that depending on route or charter taxis wouldn't. And I'm not being sold trips and things that I don't want. Just be sure that you're familiar with the roads, driving styles, and use of the horn. And leave PLENTY of following distance!

let me say DONT DO IT! My story for what its worth.
My first trip to Jamaica i went with friends and I was the one saying we needed a rental car. i just did not understand about the regular taxis and route taxies. driving on vacation in a strange place NOT!. We of course drove after drinking, bad idea. we had a blow out Yuck! and almost drove off a cliff on the old road from Mobay!
i am not saying don't spend the money because they need it in Jamaica but we stay for two weeks when we go and including airport transfers we have never spent 300 total in taxi rides considering the cost of how cheep route taxis are. At 80j per person from most rides we just give the driver the whole 100J bill and be grateful for the ride and the cost.
Do what you must be just know I was the one that insisted on a rental car on our first trip and now some 20 trips later I would never do a rental car again. you will meet some wonderful people while walking or taking a taxi and will get to know the locals much better.
Good Luck with whatever you decide.

I would like to add that if you plan on drinking and driving, DON'T....... We really like the freedom a car gives us. We do not have to leave with a plan, we just stop wherever we feel like it. We see more of the real Jamaica this way, then with a driver and a planned itinerary. Sometimes the choices one makes on vacation don't always have to be about the cheapest method. It is all about what you like.... and like they say opinions are like *ssho*** we all have one ;) Make the choice that is right for you.
