Exchanging Money
So I know lately the exchange rate has been in the high to mid ninety but I went to my bank today because It hought it would be a good idea to have some on hand when we got there since we are taking the back way to Negril. However the rate they are offering me is a little over 86!!! I walked out a little confused but wasnt going to lose money over this. Anyone ever done the exchange beforehand and gotten a decent rate? If so where?

Did it there at a cambio. Was better than here.

Re: Exchanging Money
You will almost never get a good exchange rate at home. You are better off exchanging a few bucks at the Mobay airport if you need cash for the ride, then exchange the rest at a cambio in town. Better yet, just stop at an ATM or cambio in Mobay before you get on the back roads. We like to stop at Jerky's for jerk chicken and Red Stripes, since there is a Scotia Bank ATM right next door.

Re: Exchanging Money
Better rate in Jamaica for sure.
You do not need J$, just take $100-200 in smaller US$ and use that until you get to a cambio.
Everyone will accept it.

I exchanged money two weeks ago when it was 1 USD = 99.7 JMD after I got it back and did the calculations I got 1 USD= 99.17 JMD. Did it at Commerce Bank and it took 4 days.

Re: Exchanging Money
Check with your bank and see if they charge any fees for using ATMs. TD Bank doesn't and I get whatever the exchange rate is the day I withdraw. They also refund any fees that are charged by the ATM machine as well.
I took $25,000 out on April 22nd, cost me $255.65 for an exchange rate of $97.79 to $1 with no additional fees or charges.
