some old pics from 1991

This was our first trip to Negril in '91 - we stayed at the former Villa's Negril - up on the hill in town. It felt different back then, a little more wild. I remember walking from town to the beach after dark for dinner and passing a big revival tent - it was packed and loud and rocking. The next day the security guard at Villa's suggested we go the Roaring River on little scooters they rented. Not too far he said, just turn left at 'Salamar' (we thought he said) and then just ask for directions. We took off blissfully unaware of how far it really was on these old scooters. Unbelievably, we made it with the help of some great people and had a blast. I still remember going into the cave and looking out the nostril and being force fed some mind-numbing herb - the wifey wasn't too pleased with my partaking. We made it back hours later - sunburned and tired, but I saw more of the real Jamaica then all the other times I have been back, including a trip where we drove all around the island.

Love your pictures! We went to Negril for the first time in 1986 and stayed at Villas Negril. You are right it seemed a little more wild and a little more fun back then. We went on our 14th trip back in April of this year, still love it!

Nothing beats them old photos, wish i took more back then, but the film and developing was so expensive. Even at the Photomat! lol

just wondering if the last picture was taken at the singing caves I think it was called. it was up inthe hills. I went up there in 1979 on my first trip.

my first trip to ja was in 1991 - although we stayed in montego bay at the seawind, we took a day trip to negril - and i remember it well - i knew then negril was for me - even though i was only 14.. thanks for posting these pics..
