How hard is to to find work at the resorts?
I am considering moving to Negril to marry my Jamaican boyfriend. I would need to work. When I am married I will be entitled to a work permit, correct? How hard is it to get a job at the resorts as a foreigner with a work permit? And what kind of wages can I expect? I know the wages will be much less than US, but what would be a reasonable expectation? Any feedback on this would be appreciated.

I dont know much on this subject, but im going to say it may rather difficult for a foreigner to get a job in JA. Many jamaicans themselves can barely find/get a job.
Good luck!
Im sure someone will more firsthand knowledge will be along to answer your questions more accurately.

you sound like a green horn...check it out....hope you love paper work....
Re: How hard is to to find work at the resorts?
You can't get a job unless you are providing a service that a qualified Jamaican can't be found to fill the position. If you could get a "resort" job, you could expect to make $50 US a WEEK for a full time position. Still interested?

Re: How hard is to to find work at the resorts?
be prepared to be in a class, so to say by yourself....to be a Non Jamaican Employee...it takes a looong time to get rid of the "stigma" of taking a job that a Islander might do????...Remember in Jamaica you will be the "foreigner" or "minority".....the US its the same way..but there you are home.......Too bad I agree but thats the way it is, most likley in any country.....Good Luck
