Exciting News for Negril!!!!
Rotary Rocks!!!! I just heard from a Rotary friend of mine in Negril that Negril All Age School has received new computers for their computer lab! It has been a dream for the school to get updated equipment for awhile and the dream has been realized with the determination of the Rotary members in Negril. They collaborated with a Rotary club in North Carolina and were able to get a matching grant through Rotary International to fund this project.
All of the students will be able to access the lab and it will be especially helpful for slower learners.
I know many of you, like me, are looking for ways to make a positive contribution to this place we love and want to suggest you check out some of the projects the local Rotary is involved in. They are always happy to have guests at their meetings and volunteers at their projects.
Re: Exciting News for Negril!!!!
education is the only thing we can give our children, that will last them their lifetime,,,,Good News!
Re: Exciting News for Negril!!!!
How can we help out? Can a donation be made to the Rotary in Negril? Maybe there is something else that they can do for the children.
Re: Exciting News for Negril!!!!
Yes, a donation can be made and would be much appreciated. I spoke to the Rotatry president and was told at this point the best way to contribute is to mail a check made out to Negril Rotary Club and mail it to Negril Rotary c/o Elaine Bradley, P.O. Box 3157, Negril, Westmoreland, Jamaica W.I. Thanks for your interest in donating.

Wow! Yes the Negril Rotary Club rocks....I am so happy to hear about the new computers in their lab...I was lucky to have met Lilly a Rotary member while volunteering at the Negril All Age School and was so impressed with what the group is doing for the children of Negril..I had no idea they were responsible for the annual Donkey Race too and know first hand what these computers mean to these children..
Re: Exciting News for Negril!!!!
Oh and by the way..I'm planning on going back to Negril in Jan/Feb 2014 and volunteer again for the Negril All Age School and assist the Negril Rotary Club in all endeavors in regard to assisting the school. Can't wait...sooo excited about seeing my student again and tutoring him with new computers! Now we need to get consistent Internet access for these children...the connection is intermittent and so slow....:)

Hi,
I know its been awhile, but it took some time to put all of the pieces in place and now I can answer with a huge happy YES! There is a way to donate to the Rotary of Negril and its tax deductable for U.S. donations. Super easy! Rotary of Negril has partnered with One World Childrens Fund and they are the U.S. fiscal agent for Rotary of Negril. To donate go to www.owcf.org click on partners and choose Rotary of Negril, you will see the donation button on that page. 100% of your donation will go to the Rotary and will be used for education. You will get a receipt at the time of your donation. Please pass on the good news to your friends who want to contribute to education in the much loved village of Negril.
Re: Exciting News for Negril!!!!
This is great news. I don't want to hijack the thread but thought adding a relevant link was appropriate. With the nearly islandwide coverage of cellular phones and a push by the government to provide broadband islandwide in the near future, many of Jamaica's schools will soon be going "High Tech". Check article at: http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/busin...-Paulwell-says
Jamaica is going through a technological revolution driven in part by the Goat Island Logistics Hub Project in partnership with China. An interesting read for those who are unfamiliar with the project. Please Check: http://jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/2...ead/lead1.html
Exciting times ahead for Jamaica in my opinion.
Peace and Guidance
Re: Exciting News for Negril!!!!
First Term of school just about completed. Please remember school supplies are always needed and can be dropped off at St Anthony's Kitchen on Nonpareil Road between 10 am and 1. Rotary Club of Negril will assist with proper distribution. Thank you!
Re: Exciting News for Negril!!!!
Hey Westparish,
We'll be coming down in mid-February and have already grabbed a few things to pass along: crayons, pens, pencils, markers and some drawing books. I have heard that black shoes are usually in demand, but may or may not have room in the luggage for them (i would rather donate $50 cash to the rotary or soup kitchen, then give it to the airline for another bag). Is there any other specific school supplies that might be needed that wouldn't take too much space? We are staying on the beach right by the church near Coco La Palm, would there be a possibility to drop the donations there rather than having to lug them up to the West end?
Any insight is appreciated, thanks!
