I have read on TripAdvisor that beef in Jamaica is not good. Not even hamburgers. Is this true? I'm not a big seafood person (except lobster & maybe shrimp) and don't even try to get me to try goat. Not gonna happen!

Beef (steak in particular) is not as good in Jamaica as it is in the States. I do like hamburgers, beef patties, and spaghetti with ground beef in the sauce though. Try some ox tails!
SeaStar and AhhBees both have good burgers.
We don't eat at Burger King here in the states but the burgers we had at the one in Negril were great!! We have had good roasts and steak at Hedo, not sure about other places because we usually stick to jerk chicken and also conch.
My husband had a very tasty & tender rib-eye at Xtabi & we happen to like the burgers @ BK, too :p
Was this some generic Website for Trip advisor on Beef around the Caribbean or what ? Let's see any & all Beef Patties i ahve eaten seem to taste all right - Burgers at Sunset after Dark (made from fresh ground beef daily!) are legend 'wait for it' dary!! And we pick up Ground Mince (burger) at Mega mart and make tacos and spaghetti sauce at least once during the trip each year ! It is a bit more pricey compared to the Fish And chicken because of supply and demand but a blanket statement saying it is not good sounds like someone was looking for a Striploin steak or prime rib and did not fancy what they received!
Creasemon, I read it in the Negril forum. The guy said... "I think beef is a little sketchy in Jamaica. My wife had a unique watermelon beef rib dish at Rockhouse (one of the best restaurants in Negril by many) and while good the beef taste like ox to me (gamey). And for the love of Pete don't order a burger anywhere". And another person said..."Most burgers in JA are a mix of meat and have some soy in them - similar to other caribbean spots, I wouldn't recommend trying them". I wont let that stop me from trying it. Just thought I'd see if that's the majority consensus. Hmmm...better yet, I'll let my husband be the guinea pig / taste tester first!:)
Burger is not always found in Jamaica. When we started going to Negril 8 years ago, we didn't eat any burger there it was not always found. Last year when we went we had a burger at Canoe and it was wonderful. We don't eat alot of it out there, we can always have it at home. We eat food in Negril, that we don't always get at home.
K.B. - Have no concern at Sunset After Dark (across from Negril Hardware and the al ages school) . Chef Patick is a Jamaican Canadian and we have watched him ground up the beef making his burgers. Last year he even brought down a bunch of Alberta Grade 'A' striploins from Edmonton where he lives , frozen in a block and thawed them on request. My wife had one with brandied shrimp and thought she had died and gone to heaven. There will cetainly be some fillers added to the Mince but cooked properly we have never thought it tasted unusual in any way.
I know a little off topic, but goat is very tender and quite tasty. Too bad it has so many bones. But do yourself a favor and at least give it a try.
The only beef we eat in Jamaica is in patties.

Bob
