day trip to Rocklands Bird Sanctuary

Next trip I want to visit this place, maybe take one route there and a different back. Do a large circle.
Has anyone been lately? Any suggestions?

Linston was up there last week taking Marcospoon (boardie) to the Christian deaf school which is very close by.

There are really on two good roads to get there. The coast road to Mobay or go straight thru Sav-La-Mar and make a left thru Petersfield. (that road doesn't show on this map)

Haven't been to Rockland's in a few years, but the last was a circle route as Captaind describes except we turned on the B8 at Ferris Cross which is on the satellite view above. My only regret was that we had an appointment at Rockland's for a tour of the grounds so I couldn't stop to explore on the B8. There were several bars, restaurants, views, etc. that I was wishing I could check out. I recommend making the trip in the other direction. Go to Rockland's in the morning and allow plenty of time to dawdle along B8 on the way back to Negril.

Rockland's is one of the most magical places in the world. Take the guided tour, too. Cool runnin's --Marblehead

We did it about a year ago. Had a late flight home so we checked out of the hotel and went there. We went via the beach road but the road up in to the sanctuary was in pretty bad shape and I felt sorry for the taxi driver. I wouldn't want to drive my car on roads that bad. It definitely was a magical place. We loved it.

Are there many different kinds of birds; other than Dr. Birds?
Are there both kinds of Jamaican parrots?
It sounds like a nice all-day drive kind of thing.
It would be nice to visit if you had a couple of couples splitting the cost.

I've been to "must see" places all over the island, but nothing compares to the magic of having a Dr Bird perch on your finger to take a lick of sugar water. Don't go without a camera and take the nature walk.

We used those small airplane liquor bottles filled with sugar water to feed the hummingbirds at the sancuary. We gave it a try this summer at home and they came close but were too skittish to land on our finger. We have hummingbirds from Apr/May to late Sept only. I am going to keep trying and will start earlier next summer. Anyone else tried this?

@Marblehead-there were other types of birds. The caretaker sprinkled bird seed on my legs and some of the other small birds landed and ate the seed. We did not see any parrots. Although we enjoyed our time there I think there were probably more birds back in the day with the original owner.
