I brought in a roll off summer sausage. They never heard of it. If you declare it, tell them its pork, something about mad cow.
If you like Tuna/Salmon, the foil packages of those weigh less and I had no problem with them in my luggage. Looking into other thing to for a backup when you don't feel like going out. But the veggie and fruit vendors and trucks have what I want most of the time after I arrive.
There are loads of snacks to purchase here including items you're more familiar with from home. You can find beef jerky, pepperoni, summer sausage (diff name) at most larger grocery stores. There's a huge variety of items to choose from...no worries.
Yep, I am amazed every trip what comfort food I come across. The supermarkets as well as some of the smaller stores like Wise Choice have a lot of the familiar product to most N Americans. Some stuff is cheap, like bottles of soda($55J) and some is pricey like Jagermeister ($5000J). I brought some snacks my first trip as I am quite finicky with my food, however once I went to the market I was good to go after that.Quote:

Love this question because I've been waiting to tell this story. I'm not the big authentic Jamaican food
eater, so I brought a long neck plastic jar of Jelly. When I arrived at hotel and unpacked there was
a note in my luggage that said it showed something suspicious, and my luggage was opened and checked.
Had to laugh because I can see how the long neck bottle might of looked like something suspitious.:)
Im thinking bring whatever you want unless its something obvious not allowed.
The Hi-Lo has enough North American snacks that you really shouldn't need to bring anything with you in your luggage. We have never had troubles finding a snack at our resorts or at the markets in Negril. The Hi-Lo is always our first stop in Negril to exchange money and to pick up our snack stuff, beer and bottled water. My wife is a picky eater and we have never not found what we needed to keep her happy.
You will find that HiLo has a lot of PC (president's choice) items - so no problem finding much of what you want.

You are so right, there are a lot of options at HiLo. Another option is to stop at Mega Mart in Montego Bay .... they have a lot of choices too :)
