New Year's Eve questions...
Wondering about NY Eve since we'll be in Negril over the holidays. Do the individual hotels do anything (we'll be at Coco)? Or is it just one big party on the beach? Do people get more dressed up or is it still pretty casual? Thanks for the input - we're not really sure what to expect! (other than huge traffic jams on the road)
Re: New Year's Eve questions...
Lots of parties all around the traffic isn't that bad on the beach road in town by the Corner Bar (Seaview) it gets real crazy!
Seastar has a party same as the regular Saturday night one, lots of choices, mostly casual dress.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJktJ0sx5ic
Re: New Year's Eve questions...
[[[ KEEP in mind, that i haven't been on-island in over 2-years ... so, my *feed-back* might-be TOTALLY wrong, but based on pass-trips/experiences ___ ____ ___ ]]]
'bout 11-pm
the BeachRoad (aka Norman Manley Boulevard, sometimes called Norman Washington Boulevard) WILL be jammed-packed with folks along the roadsides
lots pon beach-front too
traffic..??... --- in the past, as i recall, traffic was TERRIBLE..!..
:-(
getting around and/or out-of Negril was next-to impossible.
... whenever i go-over to Negril for NewYearsEve, i KNOW that-night, i ain't getting back to Lucea-country
over the years, the powers-that-be (e.g., Chamber of Commerce & police) instituted efforts to keep the traffic moving. Efforts primarily involved force-ing folks to park their cars on the roadside shoulder(s), and not sticking out into the road.
Some places have a little something-something on their properties. The bigger-FUN is roaming along the beach-front, hopping from place to place, & crowd to crowd. In fact, if you go to the back-of-the-house (aka The Beach Road), you're likely to stumble upon SEVERAL party-type gatherings. And of course, there're the properties on the euphemistically-called '..Garden Side..' ... i refer to it as the Swamp-Side.
Neverthless,
Dress..??... ----- lol lol lol lol lol lol ---- just don't be naked
Never-never forget::>> Negril touts itself as being:::> "..the Capital of Casual.."
so,
don't worry your-self about dressing-up, etc, unless you feel like it ---- no biggie ... NOT a concern. EXCEPT *maybe* at one of those hoity-toity all-inclusives, with the jacket-only dinner rules.
the odds are pretty-good that there'll be some-somebodies doing a private-dress-up dress-to-impress get-together. BUT as with most-things Negril-lian, cash rules..!!!... You got the cash (e.g., for cover-charge), you get-IN [[ period ]]
Re: New Year's Eve questions...
Love your insight Smith744! The past several visits to Negril, have been during this time period. I have to say that I think Smith's assessment is right on. Tend to stay pon da cliffs during NYE but if I do venture down the road to NM....it is generally crazy with traffic. However, fun traffic! Might as well know that during the big hours...no need to look for route taxi....too much traffic. We had to walk to the beginning of West End Road to get beyond the traffic jam. Gotta pay a bit more if it is later, ie. 1-2 am. So if you want to be part of the action....go for it! IT truly is an adventure! Just be aware that there may be some walking involved unless you just want to sit in traffic for a while. Enjoy! :)

Re: New Year's Eve questions...
For about the last 3-4 years I have started in the westend and walk back to the beach, the traffic on the beach road is much less than it used to be although still busy, like my short video shows it gets really jammed up where the westend road starts always a huge party there with sound system and all!
Re: New Year's Eve questions...
I avoided the roads and stuck to the beach which was one big party - it was lit up with bonfires from several hotels, Chinese lanterns releasing, bottles of champagne being popped, music from every direction, random hugs from all the beach walkers. It was still party casual and we just walked, stopped and partied along the way at so many different places.
I can't wait for it again this year!
Re: New Year's Eve questions...
You are making me SO EXCITED~~~
Re: New Year's Eve questions...
Last yea,r Coco had a buffet dinner, dinner music, and then a band later in the evening. It was OK...a little on the pricey side. Other resorts have parties and are even pricier - Sandy Haven, Sea Winds are 2 that I recall. We will probably just walk the beach and bar hop...tons of partiers on the beach, lots of bonfires, Christmas lights at some resorts, lanterns floating off at others. Everyone is out for a good time and are in the best of spirits. Can't help but enjoy!!!
