Animal Shelter?

Is there an animal shelter in or near negril? Do they accept volunteers? Or do the even allow walk throughs?
I would love to meet and maybe even walk a couple dogs from the shelter. Or even donate if they need it.
Next month I will have finished my schooling to be a veterinary assistant, animals are my passion and i would love to combine my three loves my bf, dogs, and last but not least Negril! Thanks for any input!!!

I know Debbie at Moonlight Villa does a lot for the animals. I took some leashes and collars and gave them to her one year. I took them on the bar crawl with me and Lenbert walked me over to Moonlight Villa to drop them off to her.

Also, check out one of Booger's past trip reports. Probably one of my favorite trip reports. His wife did some volunteering with animals on one of their trips. Can't remember all of the details but it was obvious that his wife has a huge heart when it comes to animals.

I think I remember that... I DO remember Sandy having a special way with animals and a gigantic heart.... didnt she do "surgery" on Clarity at pelican bar... (i read reports) a great person indeed... I hope I can figure out something... I know if that doesn't work, there are dogs at Tensing, and Catcha, now i know about Moonlight Villa...thanks...

Beebeluv - PM me your email and I will get you in touch with Debbie. My daughter graduated AHT last June and did a lot of volunteer work while we were down there. There are some places to go! And a vet who is quite easy on the eyes - I hear they don't call him Dr. Hunk for nothing. Also you may want to find out when the spay neuter clinics are - Deb, or anyone with Rotary can help with that; there is a Spay Neuter International website, but I don't think they have the dates for specific areas. As well, I can have my daughter email you her contacts at the Mobay shelter (lots of dogs!) an a few others she made when down there. There is some other important info you need!!!

Contacting Debbie Lightheart at Moonlight Villas would be my first step. She has recently started the Negril Animal Haven which is an outreach of the Montego Bay Animal Haven. Both have Facebook pages.
Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.
The hunky vet is Dr. Smith. We call him Dr. Sunshine because he has a heart of gold and when he walks in a room women and animals light up. He is an incredible caring man who works at the JSPCA in Montego Bay.
Miss Evelyn Hall is at the JSPCA there too and she is incredible.
Debbie has been feeding strays around Negril and recently helped a dog named Lucky G.
We have volunteered at a Spay-Neuter clinic in front of the public school on the West end Road. It was the best vacation of our lives. Kim Swaim runs ISNN out of Florida. They set up Spay-Neuter Clinics in Jamaica.
She and the ISNN are also on FB.
We have two dogs from Negril that we rescued and brought to Canada.
