Hotel & Location is the question.
Hello Negrilers!
Ok, I know it's early but I'm trying to secure my room for April 2015 as the rooms are booking fast and I'm looking for a new spot! I usually stay at Rooms On The Beach (LOVE the location) but there prices are steep and they don't have free wifi, CocoLapalm is another option (Love) but don't really like the location, I'm staying at Treehouse in Aug first time so I cant really comment on them and I don't want to wait until after Aug. to book. So my question is where is the other good spots to stay that compare to the above hotels? Minus (the cliffs):)
Must haves: CLEAN room, Balcony, Free Wifi, walking distance to most of the excitement (live bands) restaurants etc..and no worries having mi friend there.
I really do appreciate it!

Re: Hotel & Location is the question.
You are going to LOVE Treehouse! It seems like we look for similar things in a homebase for Negril (I am a former CoCo loyalist-changed when the new Guest Rules took affect) I would book for TH and, if for some crazy reason you are not happy, August is still enough time to get your deposit back and you might get a better deal walking through the door someplace while you ARE there. What week? I'll be at Treehouse the 1st week (i think... i usually am!)

Re: Hotel & Location is the question.
bar b barn . . . great location, good rooms, ac, hot water, nice bar, in the thick of things, secure . . . cheap . . . includes breakfast

Re: Hotel & Location is the question.
Seems like free wi-fi would almost be a necessity nowadays. I end up staying connected to work as a result, which is probably bad... But I am not sure I am physically capable of disconnecting for a week+
I wish you luck in the search.

I make it a point to totally disconnect from work while on vacation. People get mad at me, but I just don't care... I'm on VACATION.

Re: Hotel & Location is the question.
Charela Inn is our second choice on the beach. Treehouse is #1!

Re: Hotel & Location is the question.
What's your budget? Love Country Country, next to Treehouse. If you book on Negrilonestop, you pay for 6, stay for 7.

Re: Hotel & Location is the question.
We stayed at Travellers for the 2nd time in May and we love it. It has all the things you are looking for and while further down the beach(closer to town, short walk from BBB) the great service, clean and comfortable rooms and wonderful pool area more than make up for that. IF you call the hotel directly you may even be able to get a better rate than what is advertised. Have a great trip!!!

You have more willpower than I do, I have everything on my iPad now. Even down to my books. I can stay offline for most of the day, but like any "addict" I have to get my fix in at some point :)
-
Re: Hotel & Location is the question.
My next stay will be at Whistling Bird, so I'm throwing that out there. Otherwise, if you liked Treehouse, I'd stick with that. It's next on my list. Gail Jackson is a gem.

That's how I am when I'm in the states, but when I leave the country I like to pretend those things don't exist. It's wonderful, you really should try it sometime. No clocks, no TV (that's a sticking point for me), no phones (though I do carry mine for emergency) or internet, and I feel so much better for it by the end of our trips. We do check in once or twice with family to make sure our child and dog are doing alright, but that's it.

What don't you like about Coco's location?

Re: Hotel & Location is the question.
I too would like to try something new....always staying at CCLP. What are the new rules regarding the CCLP guest? And, for the boardies that love Treehouse, why and what are the rules for Treehouse guest (i.e. locals)? Thanks.

A few years a go (not sure maybe 5) CCLP started making all Guest Visitors sign in at the front desk with a picture id (may have had to leave them there for their visit), wear a wristband identifying them as Visitors and had to be off property by 10:00. The Beach Guard would always come by to double check to make sure all my visitors had bands and the front Security would start calling at 9:30 to have them leave.
What was my breaking point was when the front desk girls were very rude to my "adopted" Jamaican daughter who was a teenager at the time. They treated her like she was a prostitute sneaking on property. To the point that they said to her "I don't care what your White Lady says, no id - no entry." My girl had been there the evening before (but did not have school id that day because it was Saturday) and they had made copies of her id then but the desk girl wouldn't look at the previous day's Guest's Visitor Registry. This child had been coming on property since she was a small girl (15 trips over the previous 10 years). I eventually called the Manager's cell phone and he explained to the front desk that she could come in. My "daughter" felt AWFUL about the whole incident. VERY UPSET!
To highlight how the Rule was not evenly applied to ALL Visitors, our neighbor had a stream of Hookers coming and going (I know they were because HE told me they were) the entire trip.
Having said that, I LOVE MOST OF THE EMPLOYEES of CCLP. Many are close friends to this day. One of the pluses of being at Treehouse is they are WELCOME there.
Treehouse does also have a Guest's Visitors Policy but it truly seems in the best interest of their Clients - for safety reasons. Guest's Visitors do stop by and check in at the Lobby Desk and then the front desk calls me and lets me know they are there. I walk over and bring them to our Beachfront porch and then NOONE says anything about them being their - EVER --AT ALL. No matter.
Actually, several times Gail has come over and asked if they are having a good time - very sweet to everyone. Most of these people work at other properties and have commented that they ARE NEVER treated like this when visiting other properties. The Treehouse is truly exceptional in this regard.
After visiting for so many years- acquiring so many local friends, I can't stay someplace that isn't Local-Friendly. I want to be somewhere where the Employees are happy because they are treated fairly and my friend's are welcome without judgement.
I want to stay somewhere that a local would feel at home, based on the number of Jamaicans that actually STAY at Treehouse - this is the place.
Not an expert - just my 2 cents.

I guess I shouldn't say I don't like it, I just like Rooms location better it's right in the middle of all the happenings and I have the option to listen to the live bands on the balcony or walk out left or right and be right there...CCLP area seems to shutdown after 9:00 other then Margaritaville lol

I can live without it and really don't use it much when on vacation, but when I need it I would like it to be available free of charge..lol...and out of all the places I've stayed they all have free wifi "Rooms" is the only place that doesn't that's my only hiccup with them!
Thank you all so much I will definitely checkout these places hope to find something soon getting nervous with places booked already! I usually don't book my April trip until Aug-Sept and find exactly what I need now it's June and places are booked already! I guess the word is getting out! lol
Charela Inn

MM - I totally understand your position as I would have felt the same way...but they have changed since then...I was there Aug. last year and my "friend" when he arrived they checked him (picture ID) and treated him like a paying guest...he said they were very polite and even ask did he need assistance with his bags etc. gave him my room number and that was it, he didn't need a risk band or anything, he felt good about that as there's been some places that show there dislike of him being there and that place no longer get my business...
Thanks for the heads up on the guest policy for TH I think I might like this place! :D

Charela is 2 doors down from CCLP. Same basic area.

I was able to get a good rate by emailing Travellers. I love that place.

You were so on point when you said it did not apply to all because I have been staying at CCLP for the last three years, my last visit in June 2013, and had no problem with bringing locals on the property. Yes, they did have to have an ID and get a wristband but that was the extent of it.
I might stay at Treehouse. I am such a creature of habit! My trip is from September 8 - 14 so I still have time to make a decision.

Re: Hotel & Location is the question.
I have stayed at CCLP as well and have never had an issue with friends visiting. They have just shown their ID at the front desk. There was no "curfew" or wrist bands or anything like that.

EXACTLY! The Policy was not evenly applied to all Guest Visitors and that is what bothered me the most. AGAIN - LOVE most of the Employees - even the Employees that gave us such a hard time (on 2-3 visits over the course of about 1-2 years) were just doing what MANAGEMENT had directed them to do (i was told.)
I didn't mention this because I want to bash CCLP - stayed there for MANY (over 10) years and loved it (GREAT beach, beautiful gardens) - I just wanted to explain what Guest Visitor Policy that I was made to adhere to. I certainly hope that this is no longer going on.
For anyone that makes it part of their vacation to socialize with people other than other hotel guests - I would double check the policy of anyplace Booked, even ask if the Policy has changed between reaches. Generally you can tell, how "Local Friendly" the place is based on this Policy.
-
Re: Hotel & Location is the question.
Oh - just one more thing -
The irony of the whole situation is that I am married (hubby doesn't travel to Negril with me) and I NEVER have overnight Visitors while I am there. No, I am not just saying that - it's true.
I just want to have a few people over until maybe 11 pm on my porch - can't even stay up too late because i'm afraid i'll miss early mornings on the beach. LOL
Just wanted to clarify because after I read my previous responses, my intentions seemed a little sketchy - even to me!!!! LOL

Re: Hotel & Location is the question.
call or email Bar B Barn --- they may be doing all their bookings direct

Re: Hotel & Location is the question.
Ok so I did a 360 with my planning, although I said I don't have ANY interest in the Cliffs I've decided to give them a try instead of splitting my trip on the beach...who knows I might like it! :)
Thank you everyone for your suggestions it's greatly appreciated!

I took Jitters and Seveen's advice and stayed this April and really enjoyed it. Secure, friendly, clean, wi-fi, balcony, AC, fridge, great location, great price. Breakfast included :)
Only negative is no pool if you care, and lack of a beach shower. My own shower (great water pressure and hot) was just a few steps off the beach so no biggie.

Email. I got an answer within hours when I emailed and when I booked they also showed as Sold Out on those booking sites. I think some booking sites do that to non-participating hotels to force you into booking one of "theirs".
For example: http://www.theverge.com/2012/12/28/3...e-with-expedia

Re: Hotel & Location is the question.
How about Hidden Paradise, it has beach access via Mama Flo's, which provides a base area for your lounge chairs, bar & restaurant. Hidden Paradise has safes, AC, cable, free wifi, fridges, all included within the room cost. Onestop.com has a special, stay for 7 pay for 6. I'm staying there 4/25/2015 for that deal at $390.

Re: Hotel & Location is the question.
What do you guys think of Grand Pineapple? I know it's a AI but it's on the beach I'm now trying to narrow it down between GP & BBB...I decided to split my trip staying on the cliffs at Tensing a couple days (first time) and then head to the beach...I know most people say BBB but I don't know I'm not sold on them for some reason...so help me Please!

Re: Hotel & Location is the question.
bbb is great . . . secure, safe, air works, hot water, great bar and cheap. oh, and the greatest location . . . so, what's your hesitation?
-
Re: Hotel & Location is the question.
Once you try Tensing, you may not want to go anywhere else, IrieChic. Which room/cottage did you book? If you are an animal lover, you'll love the pups there.

Re: Hotel & Location is the question.
iriechic, all the rooms have a little porch. my favorite is the building closest to the bar, it has rooms 118, 119 downstairs, 120, 121 upstairs. 119, 121 faces the ocean. there is an adjoining porch that faces into the property. the others have a bigger, stand alone porch.
the bar shuts down at a reasonable time, and i, as a single traveler, always welcomed the morning and evening chit chat i heard from the bar.
you'd have to call direct and speak with denton.

Thank you Jitter great info! I would like a room close to the bar too as I like the chitter chatter in the morn/evening as well as live music etc. while chilling on my balcony/porch...So is room 119 upstairs stand alone porch close to the bar w/ocean view?
I'm going in Aug I think I will give him a call and see if I can tour the property while I'm there and if I like it I'll book it for April.
