Another New Years Trip Report, cripple style

This year we once again went for New Years. I have noticed every trip that as we approach Jamaica we are just east of Lucea. I have wanted a pic of our approach but I always take an isle seat which makes that kinda difficult. This year I had an isle seat, Cathy had the window seat and the middles seat was empty. One of my pleasures of visiting Jamaica is to capture lots of pictures which become memories. This year was to be different. I am suffering severe back problems and mobility is a real issue therefore I had to use a cane much of the time and rely on taxis to get around. We still had a great time, met some great people, ate some great food and enjoyed the Jamaican people.

We have been using Rocky's Tours & Taxi for many years always with exceptional service. Our driver this trip was Clinton who happened to know of a great place to stop for refreshments. We enjoyed a brief stop at Cousins Cove Restaurant & Bar. We also made a stop at Shamrock for supplies. They usually have everything we need and I'm trying to conserve steps so no big Megamart for me.

We stayed at Pure Garden this trip with a kitchenette. All the plumbing worked, ac worked, sheets were clean and we were in Negril. What more could you need? Yeah chicken and we had Tek Chicken Barrel right outside the gate. It was pretty good and he is very hospitable and grateful for the business.

The Cousins Cove restaurant was located right along the Negril-Montego Bay Hwy.

The next day we had breakfast at BarBBarn, then spent a little time strolling the beach. Actually, Cathy strolled, I limped with my cane.

Early afternoon we took a taxi to the cliffs for an Aubie burger. Our poor driver got a ticket for no seatbelt on the way.

It was New Years Eve and we headed to Errolls Sunset cafe for a few drinks. We wanted to see Lloyd as we had some pictures we had taken of him on our last trip in June. The party was on at Errolls and it grew even more jubilant as Terry Dailey and posse strolled in.

The beach was very crowded on New Years Eve, more people than I have ever seen on the beach. We didn't stay out too late as my back and hip was hurting so we retreated to the patio. We could see the fireworks from our balconey and heard the music going till the wee hours.

TAH IMO light green is wayyyyyy better than dark green, and those buds are pretty full with the exception of 1 bud... But I've only been growing for 10 years..

I can't help it bro!! It's all I can do to control my excitement!! Reading all the posts and trip reports and watching YouTube vids... Hopefully the wifey isn't sick of Jamaica before we go lol

It all depends on the strain. Some are light, some dark, also depends on night time temperatures and available nutrients. I'm gonna stick by what I said...

And it isn't the color that made me say it looked premature. It's everything else, especially that one sticking out at the top. Another 2-3 weeks would have been helpful I think.

Friday morning arrived and the streets were a lot quieter than the nite before. We decided to walk to Cafe Goa for some breakfast. It was time for some banana pancakes, I remember eating them when Selina was still there. Cafe Goa is kind of a colorful funky place and always makes for a good picture. If you remember seeing all those signs where they are going to apply for a spirit license, well now there is also a sign about applying for a ganga license at Cafe Goa.

Friday was to be Pub Crawl day for us. At a porch meeting it was decided that Terry & Janet Dailey and Roy Morrison & Sheri would join the Pub Crawl. I have a poor memory for the names of all the bars but I believe Groove has them listed in his report. It was a fun crawl as usual and I know we visited a number of bars that I have never been to before.

The picture of Cafe Goa (my husband calls it the Goat Bar) is suitable for framing. Beautiful colors.

It was Saturday morning and due to my very limited mobility we decided to give the Little Italy restaurant at the Pure Gardens pool a try. Now I know that if you don't have anything good to say you shouldn't say anything, but I really don't like sitting at a table that has bird or varmit droppings on it and they all did. i also don't appreciate the proprietor carrying my food to the table with a half smoked spliff in his mouth and because his hands were full he was unable to cover his mouth when he started coughing all the while the spliff is still between his lips.

The Pure Garden Resort was a nice 3 star property. The grounds were mostly well kept, plumbing worked, ac worked, sheets were clean and we had a great maid. About the only complaint I had is that it is a noisy resort. Some of the guests partyed into the wee hours with blaring music and there was also competing music from some of the venues on the beach. For the price I thought the place was pretty good value. I had booked in June and even then there was limited availability of reasonably priced rooms for New Years.

Several times we thought we had spotted a couple of parrots in the trees near our balcony. This morning they were in a tree a little closer to our unit and I had a camera handy.

Man, you are generous with the three star rating for Pure Garden. 3 star in the traditional sense counting amenities? Restaurant, pool, blah blah blah?

Now, even though we were staying right next door to Times Square, the girls still hadn't had enough shopping and wanted to go to Boardwalk Village. We had been there before and there were quite a number of shops. This year the number of shops was reduced as more of the units had been made into hotel rooms. The girls went shopping and Walt and I decided to go next door to Our Past Tyme Villas for a beer. On rounding the corner we discovered the bar was no longer there, so back to Boardwalk Village for a beer.

Where is boardwalk Village? I don't remember seeing that place last time I was in Negril. Mind you that was 7 or 8 years ago and I am sure a lot has changed since our last trip

Boardwalk Village is towards the north end of the beach and has probably been there for 3-4 years.

Janet, we enjoying meeting your gang as well and hope we will be able to get together again on another trip. My back is not doing well, in fact we had to cancel on a conference in Las Vegas last week as I wasn't able to travel. The reason this trip report is taking so long is because I have a lot of pain when sitting. I have an appt with a surgeon on Wednesday to see if he can bring me some relief.

After leaving Boardwalk Village we caught a cab to Alfreds for lunch, then on to Yellowbird for some Dirty Bananas for dessert.

That evening Cathy and I decided to go to Sing U for dinner, but when we walked in the place was packed. Instead, we headed for the beach and went to Coconut International and it was an excellent choice. Dinner was a three course meal of pumpkin soup, a great salad and lobster. Best meal of our trip!

food porn....great looking lobster plate....hope you get some relief...it sucks to be in pain, esp your back...hurts everytime you move, i am sure...
