What's with the white rental speedboats ??
I read that now on the beach there a rentals of speed boats. Folks are reporting that they are just as much of a nuisance as the jet skis were. ( Coming close to the
swimmers, loud, being aggressive. ) Please say it isn't so........these high powered machines have no business in a crowded swimming area, just as the jet skis didn't.
Anyone ?

Re: What's with the white rental speedboats ??
Hmmm.... What white speed boats? We have been on the beach for the last 10 days pretty consistently and know not of what you speak.
We even phoned a few of our boat owner friends and none knew what we are talking about. The number of speed boats in Negril on a regular basis can be counted on one hand.
Motor boats are and have been regulated for decades. You can not simply "rent" a motor boat and take it out for a spin. You would need to have a boater's license, proof of insurance, etc.
Perhaps what they saw was some private boats that happened to be white in Negril from elsewhere on the island. That would be both legal and unusual...

Re: What's with the white rental speedboats ??
So someone that posted this on TA, who said they just returned from Grand Pineapple, ask witness this is cracked ????lol
Well, this is why I came here to get the real scoop. thanks !
-
Re: What's with the white rental speedboats ??
Now there is another comment that they saw them to, and they are racing around .......I guess I have to see for myself when I get there...lol...
-
Re: What's with the white rental speedboats ??
It could be private boats, there have been some rather large yachts around lately... But we have been on the beach near Alfred's since 11am... No speed boats other than the parasail boats...
-
Re: What's with the white rental speedboats ??
Visitors can be seeing speed boats, private boats from MoBay can make the run easy. But I am curious as to how the observers know that they are rented?
-
Re: What's with the white rental speedboats ??
Lisa just reminded me that she did notice a lot of marine police out over the weekend. There was a crack down on something, but no one is renting speed boats for visitors to operate in Negril...

Re: What's with the white rental speedboats ??
I wonder if they'd rent that to me?
I can show a license........
Cap
That boat may have an interesting history :encouragement:

Re: What's with the white rental speedboats ??
A number of years ago there were these white little speedboats that would zip by cliffs as far as maybe Hogg Heavin.
Definitely a small boat, maybe 13” max. Had an outboard motor and could fit one person. Reminded me of a bumper car for the sea. I was drinking with Lennox Lewis and his buddy, who was 6,4. 325 lbs one night, had a great time. Anyway the next day both Lennox and hid buddy and a group of 10+ come whizzing by in those little boats, was the funniest thing I’ve seen in awhile. Those two guys looked sooo big in those boats. Saw his buddy the next day and when I asked about his boat ride he just gave me that look...and we laughed hard. Have not seen those boats since at least “92

Re: What's with the white rental speedboats ??
Wow! Just read the thread on TA... Jojo, sorry to read about their reaction to your post, but am not really surprised. There is unfortunately much wrong info on TA. After all, the top 3 "night life" picks for Negril on TA are not even operating at night. LOL!
Anyways, a poster claims to have seen some info about speed boats from Jamwest. I spoke with Jamwest this morning and they have NO speed boats at all. We are heading out to Island Lux and will check with them about their speed boats, how it works when you rent one and who is allowed to operate them. From what I have seen, the boats at Island Lux are all branded with the red and white Island Lux logos. We will report back and let everyone know what we have found out.
We are also checking with the Negril Police. We should be hearing something from the Marine Patrol and will also report back when we hear more. As of this writing, there are a couple different possibilities, but both are pure speculation. If either pan out, we will let you know.
Reading between the lines on the TA thread, the best I can say is that a few people saw something and made some assumptions from what they witnessed. Now places that cannot possibly have any connection are being blamed for the situation that may or may not exist.
Please keep checking back as we learn more today!

Re: What's with the white rental speedboats ??
Thanks Rob!
Hey Jojo, I loved your response when the OP was nasty.....If you need someone to share that investigative trip with you, count me in!!!...we do not live that far from each other and we certainly agreed on our thoughts regarding Nathansberg!

Re: What's with the white rental speedboats ??
Rob, as always, thanks for all your leg work to keep things copacetic. :encouragement:

Re: What's with the white rental speedboats ??
Hey Rob
I saw these boats several times between feb 24th and march 10. They are 14-15 feet long, two seater's max and would be too small to come from MoBay. I was curious about them myself. In the evening I wouyld see them headed towards the AI end of the beach. Maybe someone in Bloody Bay has them as an AI perk?

Re: What's with the white rental speedboats ??
We saw 5 white boats following each other last week...not sure they were speed boats...not close to the swimmers or speeding
-
Re: What's with the white rental speedboats ??
If you go the the website for Island Lux, they are indeed advertising speed boats.
-
Re: What's with the white rental speedboats ??
Jeanne...hey...it's you....lol. Yes, we seem to agree with advice to the '' colorful'' characters over there .....hahaha
Thanks for posting that pic Irene, that is obviously what they were talking about........that picture makes my stomach sink...folks driving close, not paying attention to where they are going...
Rob, thanks for all you are doing to nip this in the bud before another tragedy.

Re: What's with the white rental speedboats ??
Oh boy. Here comes trouble, here comes the danger. They do look like fun but please stay away from shore and look out for the guy in the water waving his arms frantically at you while his wife hightails it to the ladder.

Re: What's with the white rental speedboats ??
I am posting this from Island Lux. Their boats here are not white and the most they have rented in one day so far has been two. Here is a picture taken moments ago:
Attachment 50948
As you can see, there is no way that you can mistake them for the white, two seater boat in the picture in a previous post. Island Lux most certainly has absolutely nothing to do with this situation. Both Jamwest and Island Lux have been falsely accused on TripAdvisor.
The picture of the white boat posted above does match the descriptions and is very similar to what we just saw here at Island Lux. The manager was explaining to us that all Island Lux boats can only be rented with a licensed captain at the helm. They have no two seater boats.
About twenty minutes ago we saw three boats speeding way out near the reef heading towards the HiLo area of the West End. The boats we saw go by just a few minutes ago were traveling in a straight line, steady but would be a stretch to call them "speeding". From an inside the boat perspective, less than 10 mph. But they were traveling between the Island Lux moored boats and the bouy lines. Way too close unless you are observing a "no wake" speed.
They did indeed continue north into Bloody Bay, but it was impossible to tell where they went from there.
It is clear though that no one is renting them on the Negril beach. They are coming from Bloody Bay or beyond.
The mystery of their origin continues...
-
Re: What's with the white rental speedboats ??
if they let them ride them out by the reef and around Booby Cay they will be "paddle boats" soon enough:courage:

Re: What's with the white rental speedboats ??
Uggghhh. I build boats for a living. Not what I want to see on vacation.
-
Re: What's with the white rental speedboats ??
It seems to me the boats were seen by folks that were on vacation at a similar time. Since I did see a heavier presence of Marine Police last week...hopefully this was an unusual situation and it's already being nipped in the bud. We'll know soon.

Re: What's with the white rental speedboats ??
You might want to check with Royalton Negril in Bloody Bay which is considered part of Negril.
-
Re: What's with the white rental speedboats ??
I just asked on the Couples Negril Facebook page. People have been seeing them but way off shore and not close at all. It is not believed they are originating in Bloody Bay.
-
Re: What's with the white rental speedboats ??
That is one of the two most likely scenarios we have heard... But still at this point it has not been confirmed.

Re: What's with the white rental speedboats ??
Well I am not sure why no one has seen them. I live on Little Bloody Bay and walk my dog down the beach in Bloody Bay often. The little white boats of much speculation are moored out front of the Royalton Negril main beach.

Rob said he saw them today and others have said they've seen them already.
If you live here and know what's going on...why didn't you say earlier in your messaging the boats are at Royalton...if you knew this to be true??

Since most of us that live in Negril or near Negril don't live in Little Bay or near the Royalton...it would be great if you could take a pic of the boats for everyone. We've involved the police in this also...I'm sure they would appreciate the help in resolving this matter.
-
Re: What's with the white rental speedboats ??
I am quite sure that the police know where the boats are. The marine police boat that someone posted a pic of earlier in this thread is in Bloody Bay daily. The plainclothes policemen that walk the beach daily as well as the uniformed police that do so as well would have to be blind to not see them.
-
Re: What's with the white rental speedboats ??
Someone who just returned from the new Royalton confirmed they are from that resort.
-
Re: What's with the white rental speedboats ??
Barb,
Where did you see/hear this? We have no picture proof other than a photo from a Cuban Sunwing website.
-
Re: What's with the white rental speedboats ??
Ya that's the resort built in partnership with Sunwing Canada. They're pretty sneaky those guys, even managed a 4 story resort in a town that supposedly had a 3 story maximum statute. Doesn't surprise me.

It is on the Couples Negril Facebook page. Someone replied to my post asking about it. Someone posted a pic of them and then someone said he was at Royalton last week and they are definitely from that resort.

Irine...they weren't sneaky about the four stories. Royalton built in the Hanover Parish and the Hanover Parish does not have a three story rule.
The Westmoreland Parish had the building rule/law of "no taller than the tallest palm tree"....Westmoreland has now changed their building guideline to a specific measurement (I'm too lazy to look up the actual numbers :courage:) and this new measurement/guidline allows you to build up to four stories.

Tallest palm tree? Good to know the code is developed from hard data :friendly_wink: Wonder if the new palm tree cell phone towers count?
:congratulatory:

We saw the boats again today at Island Lux and we got a picture of them! It looks like a guided "tour" with a single boat leading and controlling the pace. Here is a shot of all three:
