We are staying at Rooms on the Beach and wondering where to get the best patties?
Norman's are good. They're prepared with cocoa bread. Veggie, chicken and beef. Watch for him pushing his bike on the beach.
In my opinion.........Out of Town Pastry!!
I love Norman's, for sure. I can't believe I have never tried Niah's before but I will rectify that this summer!
i agree with out of town pastry... i may be biased since the owner is my dad.. but when i was there for 2 months over the summer i tried patties from everywhere and his were the best... norman's are good too.. so if you're on the beach get normans.. if your in westend go to out of town pastry... its a little past the light house
Niahs
A good friend of mine from Logwood took us up to out of town pastry. He says they're the best and I can't disagree. He drives taxi and knows all the good spots.
If they're prepared w/ coco bread, they aren't patties, they're loaves. I'm more of a pattie person since I'm not big on bread.
Neville starts at the other end of the beach. He bakes his own patties (don't know about Norman) but lately, they've been a bit thin. I still love his patties & the "to the beach lounger" service. He passes Rooms. Nothing beats that.
Niahs are the best
Niah on the beach makes the best I have ever eaten-by far.
I love the Italian one at Niahs, it is not like any other pattys I have had, Out Of Town is really good, Hammonds I think its called by the roundabout really good, The little patty shack next to Treehouse is good too.
You are all probably going to collectively groan but I like Juici Patty.
They are good too! I try them at almost every gas station I stop at, some of them are good some not so.
i like juici pattys too
My votes:
Love Niahs (Cheese/tomato) and miss Sonia's (callaloo/veg) for "soft" patties but for flaky kind I love Juicy Patties in town.....Curry Chicken is my fav but I get a Beef/Cheese (ordered as Cheese) once in a while which is deadly but delicious. Out of Town has both kinds and they are really good too. I had never seen or tried "loaf" and they have ackee loaf there - don't like ackee but it looked so fresh. Mmmmmmm want me some patties rite now
I agree, Cheese patties at Juicy are my favorite
It depends on whether i'm peckish for a snack or ready for a meal.
But Norman's patties on the beach are excellent and you get a bagjuice with the cost. He comes on the beach at Roots Bamboo and goes north.. Neville works the south side of the beach.
Niah makes great patties from scratch and they are big enough for a meal.
Out of Town Pastry have more of a loaf than a patty.. but the ackee loaf is to die for!
I really like Out of Town bakery but Juici Patties are delicious too and they're nice and hot when they're served.
love the vibe at both places too.
Miss Sonia has consistently the best patties, dare I say, in all of Jamaica. She makes everything from scratch and they are twice the size of any other patty I have ever eaten. One taste and you will convert too. Most of the other patties
are just ok.
We tried Niah's veggie (Italian?) patty and it was really good. Could have used a bit more seasoning though. I used to love Juici patties until I tried the tastee patties at Hammonds. I think they're a bit bigger. Hammonds sandwiches are really good as well, made on fresh coco bread.
Are Miss Sonias patties flakey? or bread like?
How could I forget!?!? The Health Shop, near the roundabout, has yummy, filling patties. They're a variety of whole wheat, vegetarian patties. I've never had one from there that wasn't delicious.
Neville does provide a good product that's very reasonably priced (he's also a great guy). His, however, are not in the same league as Niah's. Also noteworthy and is directly accross the road from Rooms is Miss Sonia's on the inland side of NMB. Although very good, be prepared for a long, long wait. :)
Both Niah's and Miss Sonias are quite a bit larger than Nevilles. They are also more expensive. I'd recommend trying them all. My personal favourite is Niah's (veggie or Italian). MMMMMMMMmmmmmmm
Will have to try Miss Sonia's again some time. Tried a chicken patty a few years ago and it tasted really fishy. Done in the same pan as the seafood patties, I guess.
I like the flaky, non-bread, pastry. Tried Ms. Sonia's once years ago, wasn't that impressed. Maybe I'm spoiled by the beach service :-) Neville's are good but not as good as The Health Shop.
I've never tried Niah's but last reach in Dec. I had Miss Sonia's for the first time.....They were good, home-made to order, more breadlike than pastry but real
Good, different from the patties on the beach or juicy patties.
Cheap thrill corner has decent patties too.
We are Seasplash-dwellers, so the quick-fix patty is next door at Cheap Thrills (between Seasplash and Treehouse). Most days that's lunch. They also make some great Jamaican dishes every day. Portions are big, price is fair. I have a funny story about the chicken they special-ordergrilled for me sitting in an as-yet-unpublished trip report, but it was great. Niah's is a nice walk destination from Seasplah, and the patties are good and different. In addition, you get (most times) to visit with Niah, who is a cool dude as far as I can say. I always enjoy small talk with him. But you stand there and watch them deep-fry (on the very cool wood logs he juggles around) and then you have to walk twice if you know what I mean.
Here's a Pic of a Chicken Pattie from Niah's...half eaten ;)

Yuuuuuuuuuuuum!
I must agree. Niah's is not just a good filling patty. It's an experience.

That is my personal favorite place too. Nice hot cheap and very tasty! :)

Thanks for the clarification, Yvonne, I didn't know that. We've known Norman for many years and have had many budget lunches eating his loaves.
I'm on team Norman. Niahs is a nice experience but I think his patties are over rated and over priced. I do love Niahs Ital sauce.
My two favorite "flaky" patties...
Mother's (can't get them in Negril) &...
the incredible deliciousness of Tastee patties at Hammonds Bakery ROCKS IT (they're soooo gooood...that you've got to get them early during high season...or they run out)!!!!
[QUOTE=Bossman;32216]I'd been eating patties for years before I had a loaf at the old Three C's. Tried it, too much bread. Oddly, I do like coco bread, usually w/ melted cheese. I like the lighter, flaky crust. Here at home I don't eat subs or sandwiches but am very big on wraps made w/ flatbread. Just a bread thing w/ me, I guess.
I love coco bread, but it sits at the bottom of my belly like an anchor. Sadly, my patty from Out of Town this trip was almost empty. One dud out of many isn't bad though.
NORMAN walking the beach on a bike, soon come
Niah!
We also buy cocoa bread from Norman and make some fresh salsa with tomatoes, scallion, peppers, cucumbers and a little hot sauce. Then we toast the cocoa bread, spread a little cream cheese on it and top it off with the fresh salsa and call it lunch..........it's delicious and cheap.
