So sad to hear this... but I must ask ....
Please tell me this is not Alfred from Alfred's taxi service?
I hope not, he just accepted my friend request.
Yes me too. I just saw where someone from his logon / ID did a Bump on his thread at 4:35 AM this morning. So hopefully not the same Alfred.
Still, my prayers go out to his family and friends....
sorry to report, it IS 'that' Alfred.
Muzikdoc- He is my friend on facebook. Seems it is our Alfred. Prayers go out to his family and all who knew him
I saw someone post a link to Facebook about this, but am not a member and could not see the details.
Without offending anyone, or the family, are there any details you can share? One love!
No...oh no. This is very sad news.
My prayers going out to all that are close to Alfred. Hoping to hear more. I was just about to call him to make arrangements, how shocking.
It is in the Jamaican Gleaner about it. It sounds like he happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. RIP Alfred, our thoughts & prayers are with his family.
Oh no, so sad! My prayers go out to his family :(
I am sad to confirm that Alfred Barrett was indeed shot and killed last night, the details are sketchy with differing reports on TVJ and the Gleaner but the bottom line is that he was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time?!
I will post more later but at the moment am overwhelmed...
One Love
Tracy
OMG I am so sorry for your loss Tracy, I know Alfred was a very dear friend of yours. I knew him slightly but from what I did know he was a kind man. Another senseless killing....just makes one sick. RIP Alfred....you will be missed.
Gosh, speechless here. The wife and I had the pleasure of spending a day with Alfred in 2009. We even went to his home and met his wife .... sorry if I do not recall her first name. May the Lord bless his family and friends.
Tracy, we never met you, but Alfred spent a lot of time that day with you 'in his ear' ... You are in my prayers. If there is anything you or his family need, please let me know, we will be in Negril in early September.
So sad to hear Tracy.I know Alfred had made many friends over the year and will sadly be missed by many.Another hard working man taken to soon. Will miss that smile.May Jah Protect & Guide his loved ones left behind.

I am truly saddened to the depths of my soul. I have known Alfred for many years dating back to the first meeting at the Xtabi bar. My heartfelt sympathies are sent to his family and all that shared the joy of knowing Alfred.
Alfred was my first driver to Negril....I had the pleasure of spending much time with him & getting to know Alfred as a friend over the years through Rob.
My heart goes out to his friends, Rob, Tracy and condolences to his family! We will all miss him dearly!!
Very sad. One of Negril's top cabbies and a really nice man. RIP.
Very sad news. RIP Alfred
I have some really good memories of times with Alfred, a ride from Negril to Kingston, an evening learning to cooking lobsters, many runs about town with friends during ekoostik hookah festivals. He was a great man, a great dad, an incredible representative of Jamaica to visitors and his loss will be felt by SO many. Just one post on Facebook has elicited many private messages and phone calls from people who only met him last year. I have only known him for 4 years, I can only imagine what the huge number of long-time clients and friends of his are going through.
Negril won't be the same with Alfred Barrett gone.
He was our first driver too... :(
Indescribable how sick I feel right now. Alfred IS Jamaica to me. He was the first person I met on my first trip to Negril in 2005. I was a female traveling alone my first time out of the US and Alfred took great care of me. He was like a big brother and made sure I was safe and that I got to see as much of Negril as possible. I’ve used his services every time I’ve been back since that first time and was looking forward to seeing him in May when I return to the island with my daughter on her first visit. Some of the best conversations I’ve had in Negril were with him (he thought I was waaaaaay too conservative) and I’ll never forget him trying to teach me to drive his car (before the van) and running me all around town looking for corn from the roadside vendors.
My trips to Negril just won’t be the same without that smiling face. Prayers and condolences to his family.
RIP Alfred. The “Good Girl from Chicago” is truly going to miss you.
Very Sad. RIP Alfred.
Heartfelt sympathy to his family.
Indeed a great loss.
RIP Alfred...prayers of strength to your beloved family.
Sad news indeed. Condolences to the family. RIP, Alfred.
Please share your memories of Alfred! He was such a great guy- I think all of us would love to hear that little story or small moment that you will always remember him for...
I'll get it started by saying that just 3 weeks ago he was SO EXCITED, I mean I havent seen him this excited in a while... about Peter Tosh Day. He spoke of how he works so hard for his family, but in doing so- he doesnt spend enough time with them... he was gleaming ear to ear when he told us that about the big feast he was going to prepare for his family. he was to kill a goat and a pig and have all of his family there to celebrate. He was so excited to be spending time with them...
miss you bredda
In 2008 or so, he picked me up in Negril and took me to Kingston to visit a mutual friend. He drove carefully and slowly. As we chatted he mentioned that he was driving that way for me. I told him not to worry about me and drive as he liked...we FLEW to Kingston :)
We stopped along the way in Whitehall to pick up some lobsters because it was March 31, the day before they'd be illegal. Alfred helped me locate and choose and negotiate the price of those lobsters. On arrival in Kingston he stayed for dinner..and good thing because none of had a clue what to do with 6 live lobsters. He arranged the (killing) parboiliing and cutting in half, I grilled them with garlic butter, as I'd seen Lydie do at 3 Dives so many times. We enjoyed that meal so much.
I remember when his son was so badly off, in the hospital in Kingston, and our talks of how he was handling that.
A year or two later, when ekoostik hookah came to Negril for a week of shows with fans, I asked Alfred to be one of our "main" drivers. He took great care of everyone, even got out of bed for late night calls. Many of my friends from that group have called me today to express their sadness.
That's all I've got.
So sad, what a crazy world it can be...my thoughts and condolences go out to Alfred's family and friends. I did not know him but his business reputation alone says a lot about him.
Very sad, he will be missed!
I'm sad I dont have more memories of him. Only priveleged to meet him once.
But that smile is contagious....
December 09...We were late being picked up because another couple sharing a ride could not be found...Alfred Made the trip in I'm sure was record time..at one point I was sure we were on two wheels around a corner..Alfred looked over his shoulder at me and said "No Worries I am A Professional" Then laughed that loud laugh of his. Of course we made it safe and on time for our flight.
I met Alfred for the first time 3 weeks ago. He drove myself and another couple to our hotels. I met the couple at Atlanta airport and we are all from around the St.louis area and we just happened to end up in the same ride with Alfred.I was telling them that I was going to shoot pool at Tayons that night and Alfred looks at me and says that is where I hang out. He tells me there is a guy there that is real good. We made jokes and Alfred bet me that the dude would destroy me. I told the couple the I was going to Ragabones the next day and hoped my friend Trombone would be there and Alfred looks at me and says that's crazy. He says how do you know him? I grew up with him. I said that awhile back I met him at Ragabones. So we get to Green Island and I mention that I am going to shoot pool at a little place called Patsies . Alfred slows down and gives me this look and says oh my god who are you and what is going on here. That's my cousins place.I went to Tayons that night and was shooting and I turn around and there's Alfred right behind me.We drank and shot pool and got real loud.Alfred had a big voice and big heart. Another good person taken too soon. RIP Alfred.
My condolences to his family...RIP Alfred..Another senseless killing in Jam..
This is such sad news...
Markus and I were shocked when we read this
We did not have the opportunity to meet Alfred in person, but we've read so much about him here at Negril.com. He was loved by so many people.
Our prayers and condolences go out to his friends and his family.
I'm so very sad. RIP Alfred. Prayers to the family and all of his many many friends. You will missed so very much.

So sad to hear this--and it is so random and violent. Alfred was an upstanding Jamaican with good morals. It is terrible that his life was cut short just by being in the wrong place at the wrong moment. He shared a lot about himself with me in the ride from Mobay to Negril. He helped me navigate Megamart and insisted on pushing the cart for me. I told him to pick out something for himself in the store and he chose treats for his kids.
I'm just hearing about this. I did not know Mr. Barrett, but I am sure that for those of you who did, and his family this is a very sad loss. WHen pieces of Jamaica leave like this it is sad for all of us.
Crikey, this sure makes my heart hurt, Alfred was a lovely gentleman, bout my age I think - he drive me several times when I was in Negril in past days, to the store back & forth with groceries and from the airport back when it was 50 or 60 $ to fly from MoBay to Negril in them little planes, jeez this is sad news. My heart is truly with all his family and friends. So very weary of some people they want to solve every little disagreement with a gun, wow, and here comes Alfred without a mean bone in his body, just trying to walk in a door, my god...
