what do you spend per day in Negril?

Well we just did the math and we averaged $75/day/person during our 19 day visit of Negril. we split between Seasplash, and Seastar. I have an accurate total of everything from on board plane tab, duty free,transport, cash, food and booze,and souvieneers, to the scooter rentals,and anything else you can think of. We are travelling as a couple. Not bad, alittle more than last year, and worth every penny. Can't wait to do it again next year! Just curious what others spend. plus it was another $2500 for flight and 18 nights, for two.

as little as 30 to 50 US never over 100.00 US

i spend as little as $35 a day.. thats because i'm extremely budget conscious and i tend to eat less while on vacation.. which is strange.. most of my money is spent on beer and fruity cocktails

I am not sure but it's something that's been on my mind a lot. Are next stay is quite a bit longer and were looking for ways to cut back, we're not big drinkers which helps a lot and were only planning maybe on excursion. I want to shoot for 50 a day per person. Breakfast is included and were planning on patty's or snacks for lunch only and splurge on good dinners.
If I can keep my shopping under control we'll do fine, we do have one written in expenditure, it's something we only do in JA so skies the limit on that one.

My wife and I average around $200 a day, minimum.

we pay 2800 for direct flight from toronto canada with westjet inc our room with ROOMS ON THE BEACH plus 1500 canadian for all extras booze, food for 17 days , etc, soon come

We generally spend about 100 US per day...however, we do tend to fix a light breakfast in the room, coffee, or tea..fresh fruit, maybe bulla and occasionally oatmeal. We also have a cooler that we take, so we buy most of our beer and rum with mixers. That alone, saves bigtime for us...we do drink at bars also but hanging around our room in the evenings is our cocktail hour. Plus, we generally eat dinner at yardie places...if we eat a special meal then that amount goes up.

We lucked out for our next Christmas trip, which for 2 was about 1,100 US. Gotta a while to wait, but I am already counting the days.

This past trip...flight was just over $608 Air Canada from TO ($1216 for the both of us). Spending money for food/drinks and route taxis...average of $100/day per COUPLE. We still ate and drank very well...breakfast every morning at Alfreds, patties on the beach for lunch and dinner out most nights including lobster at Ericas's once for supper. Tickets to Toots not included, transportation to/from airport not included.

Hoping to spend the most $150 per two of us this summer, less than before. Last time it was about $225 a day for two adults and a ten year old. We ate GOOD every night.

I keep precise cost logs when in Negril and mine is 80 a day for one. I eat usually one full meal around 10-12 and then a couple patties or a grilled cheese and 3am barrel chicken and the rest is too expensive of drinks at touristy bars lol.

I spend about 100 per day. Nights a lot more, ha ha .....

Yeah when travelling solo around $100 a day usually a little higher first few days then a little less as time goes on.

Room at Point Village for two weeks 800 US
Mobay to Negril return 100 US
Mega Mart supplies 200 US
Daily booze ..transportation ..and a good dinner every night 100 US
Grand total ..two people ..two weeks .. 3250 ..probably closer to 3600 ..not bad 900 per week per person ..

i spend around 130. us per day ,,that's with hotel ,air,house sitter, trip to airport food and fun,, i am on vacation , i cheap out when i am home

I budget $100 a day but usually don't spend that much.

We've got a $200 a day tab for the two of us, with a piece of plastic for 'overspill'!!!!!

We usually only go six nights, (Always Three nights at the Grand Pineapple - which covers all drinks and foods) so the costs have not been pretty low for us
$1.50 redstripes at Sunnyside, 2 for 1 drinks at Seastar happy hour, 3 Dives or best of the west for Jerk Chicken dinner. A 1 night splurge at Ivans.

We're going on our first ever 12 night trip next month and no AI at all this time.

I budget $100 a day exclusive of hotel, air, and transfers. Sometimes, I have money that spills into the next day...but not very often. :D I cap my spending on a "per vacation" basis before I leave...so I can come back more often...and sometimes this means the last couple days are tight if I went overbudget. But that's part if the fun. (SEE: Brasi Lost in Negril)

I spend more freely on vacation, for the most part...hey: it's vacation.

Quick tip:
When possible, eat lunch on the cheap (patties are $1.50, 2 and you're all good), and find hotels that offer free breakfast (prolific in Negril). Box lunches at Yardi spots are like $250J.

Then dinner can be whatever ($20 ish is a good guide to cap at, in my experience), and your Red Stripe money stays in your pocket!

We are taking $2000 US and $300 JA for 7 days...............hopefully that is enough for 2!!

That's me as well. Between drinks, taxi's and entrance fee's I think that is where the bulk of my money goes but I can still usually get by on about 3500J a day. Of course I stock up on bottles of Rum Cream and Vodka when I get there, so it does save some money when you go out when you have already started the party at your room :cool:

$100 per day looks average per person, however now that I have gone back and looked at my spend from my last reach it's actually more. I'm with danap and I tend to throw it down on vacation and my last reach averaged around $350per day for myself and Sandie. This is however staying at Catcha(not including my room rate) and paying premium prices for drinks, dinner most nights there, and an excursion day. We do drink all day everyday, so it's really the alcohol that adds up. And we probably spend half our time on site and the rest is out exploring new or favorite digs. I would plan to spend twice as much as you think you need to and be happy if you come home with some. It's been said many times; take twice as much cash and half the clothes.

One trip I managed $250 over 6 days (I was broke but determined that year!!!) Another trip I spent about $1500 over 10 days and I stayed in yard (NEVER doing that again...at least not with that person) This trip I plan to spend no more than $1000 over 17 days (a bleeding stomach ulcer cuts down on drinking and eating heavily)!!!

Sometimes I find it "costs" me more to stay in da yard...

I spend a fraction of the average on here. True enough, I always stay at AI's becasue the food and drinks being included is a win/win for me, plus a lot of free water sports like paddle boating & kayaking. So the only thing I spend money on are excursions, souvinirs, and clubbing.Cab fare was close to nothing as it was split between 2 of us, and we were only going up and down the road and not going too far. Last time I went for 5 days and spent less than $350 total. This normally includes about to excursions per trip.

Hello Yetta. I never read anyone mention bulla! My wife and I discovered it last trip. It gets even better when stale. I like to lightly toast it and dip it into Blue Mountain coffe. Add some fresh fruit and I am in heaven at breakfast time.

Not clear if you are including air and lodging to me. I've never broke it down but we probably spend around $125-$150 a day exclusive of air and lodging.

It seems that this is meant for non AI visits exclusive of air and lodging to get an idea of what kind of cash people bring for food, drink, transportation, shows, etc. And those amounts vary wildly depending on how you roll. I am a budget traveler and tend to stay in less-expensive lodging with kitchenettes or breakfast included ( Bar B Barn, NBCC, Seastar, White Sands, etc). I buy drink making supplies, ting and coffee at the store, as well as food makings for breakfasts and lunches or dinners. I buy patties and fruit for snacks or lunch or one of my favorites, coco bread with fresh sliced tomato, tastee cheese and hot sauce, make coffee in my room etc. I go to a couple of shows and eat maybe one meal a day out--but usually at cook shops/box lunch places, jerk barrels. I take route taxis. I can easily get by on 40 a day but I like to budget 50. I treat friends or drivers to meals and beverages from time to time. I don't buy many things to bring back other than scotch bonnet sauces, coffee and the coconut castille soap.

I'm with you on the budget. Sometimes as much as 50 but again sometimes as little as 20. If I am not drinking or going out, I might spend even less. Depends. Some folks don't understand being so economical but that's part of what lets me come down 3 to 4 times in a year. I FULLJOY, so that's all that matters.

Yes, I get the poverty in Paradise thing, and I know some days you spend more than other days, we all do that. If you are on a strict budget, I would think you would be more aware of your average daily rate, and at the begginning I said not including air and lodging, as to many variables. The common denominator is entertainment, food, travel(excluding air),shopping, any and all things you spend money on. It is easy for me to calculate, I look at my statement from ATM, plus credit card statement, plus cash I brought, divided by days = daily rate. $150/day for 2, or $75/day/per person. I am only curious as last year, it was $65/day. We plan on spending a month next year, and i need to know how much i need to save. Anyone get cigars while in Negril? I started smoking a few months ago and I saw that Jamaica makes pretty good cigars, so I'll get some as gifts for people back home, I figure I better budget an extra couple $100 for the cigars.

I can't wait to visit Negril without doing the all Inclusive, I don't drink nearly as much as I used to so it's not really worth it, especially given that I'm seeing airfare+hotel for $700 or less for 6 nights, why pay $1200-$1400 and not even get local food?!

The one downside is that I'm actually kind of sick of lobster, my friend owns a lobster shack so I already have lobster pretty much every day....

How are drink prices at the ala cart places in Jamaica compared to the US? In DC/Maryland we're looking at anywhere from $6-$15 for a drink when out and about.

$100.00 a day for two is what we've budgeted our 4 previous trips to Negril and it'll be the same this year too! Not to mention that our Canadian dollar now buys more Jamaican dollars then it used to. Sometimes we go over but that is more than offset by the many days we don't!

Mud,where can you stay for $30/day? and i think you missed the point. its about averageing all other expenses food and booze, shopping , taxis, adventures, subs, etc. diveded by number of days, exclusive of air and lodgeings. We don't keep a running track, when we get low on J's we go back to scotia bank. But when we get home I do like to tally and Know what i spent and try and remember where? Example $5500-900(flights)-1600(hotel)=$3000divided 18 days=$166divided 2 people = $83/day per person. I like to compare what i spend from year to year I find it helps me plan for next year. Cheers!

1I everybody! I know its been a while! I think budget is very personal! I need at least 100 dollars a day, but i need 1000 for a week dont ask my math is bad! i think the beginning of the week is more expensive! I tend to spend about 200 the first day btw. the drive, the beers on the way! and i tend to invite anybody that comes my way! then at the end I run out of money! i always spend 1000 for 7 to 10 days!
