Jan/Feb will be our 5th trip to Negril!
It was somewhere around 40 but have only been once in the last 20 and that trip was 10 years ago! Every time was magic!

Since my husband retired 6 years ago he doesn't come near the computer so I'll try to give you a Reader's Digest version. When Gerry was around 22 he and 2 friends drove a new car from a dealer in Michigan to deliver in Florida then decided to go to JA. The only flight available was to Kingston so they ended up staying there overnight then caught the train to MoBay. After numerous stops on the train they reached MoBay. A cab driver suggested they go to Negril "where all the hippies go". The got a room with a family in Red Ground for $2.00 each a night. I think there were only 1 or 2 hotels on the beach and the only bar/restaurants were the Yacht Club and Wharf Club (across the street from the Chinaman store in town). They didn't have much money so they lived on egg sandwiches, beer, and subs of course. One night they splurged on a lobster dinner at the Yacht Club for $4.00! When my husband went back in 1990 (with me) we walked around Red Ground trying to find the house he stayed in. He had a picture but nothing resembled it. We finally asked a local in the area and he told us Hurricane Gilbert mashed the house so it didn't look the same. He took us to it so we stopped to chat with the woman that owned it. She didn't remember my husband of course but we had an interesting conversation. Too bad my husband had no money back then. He said he could have bought prime property for about $3000.00 US.
Nancy Marie,
Back in November 2000, I posted what is probably one of the last photos of the old Wharf Club before it was renovated. You can still make out the "The Wharf Club" Wharf Club sign, as well as the "A Disciplined Club" tagline! Thanks for the story!

Since 1986, 46 times, the majority for 3+ weeks at a time. Of that majority of 3+ weeks, at least 12 were for 5-7 weeks.
been going since 1982........after 50 trips this guy lost count.....
the reaches this year alone have broke mi own personal record for reaches in one year..........lol
Cool Runnings, Marko
Somewhere around 28 or 29 trips since the mid 90's. Looking so forward to adding one more to this number in December!! It truly gets better every single trip! :)
Oh Geez...I lost count. Maybe in the 50-ish range? My December trip will be the 6th this year...Thinking about getting a job with the airlines to support my habit!
Hey I'm catching up with y'all... I'll have 2 under my belt come April! :D Never knew how important getting away alone with old man was until this past July. I am so happy that we chose Negril as our first trip together... 15 years of marriage & five kids! It was hands down the most special thing I've ever done ... behind the birth of them youngins'! I will admit that I am extremely jealous of all of you... especially the ones who experienced JA in the 70s!
Thanks Nancy Marie and Rob for the time travel.
Our Nov trip will be #10 to Jamaica and our 9th trip to Negril
Linda and I have 10 trips but sadly haven't been able to swing it since Jan 2010!
63rd trip at the end of October. A group of 40+ started traveling to Jamaica 19 yrs ago. Next April will be our 20th year!! Obviously I have gone back quite a few times on my own. Just can't stay away!!
Trip #13 in Jan of 2013 for me and #6 for my GF. We love the rock!
What a coincidence! I'm reading Banana Shout (autographed by Mark Conklin) for the 3rd time right now. The first time my husband took me to the Wharf Club I wanted to turn around and walk out. It was daytime but very dark inside with a few shady looking characters drinking. We ended up having a few beers and had a great conversation with the shady characters there. Can't judge a book by it's cover I guess.
