The Best thing about where you stay.
I stay at the White Sands when i come to Jamaica. The first year i stayed at the Palms and i remember walking along the beach and seeing the big yellow observation deck on the beach at the sands and thinking what an odd thing. The secound year we ended up staying there and the experience was so much better it is our goto place now. We tried a day in the cliffs last year and couldnt wait to move back to our usual spot. The vibe and location are excelent. So just wondering what makes others go to there spot?Attachment 17591

Re: The Best thing about where you stay.
Just a little north from there is The Co Co LaPalm. Wonderful staff, great beach, lots of shade, in the middle of the beach- 3 KM to town, 3 KM to Cosmos - everting is a short walk away.

Re: The Best thing about where you stay.
We have 3 places we stay on a regular basis. On the beach Treehouse and Charela Inn are our faves. At Treehouse it's the staff and the breakfast buffet. Also the fact that Gail is a creative and accommodating hotelier and is incredibly active in the community. Charela was the first place I stayed in Jamaica and still my favorite spot on the beach. The staff there is unparalleled and they have the best stretch of beach.
But my true Jamaican home is up on the cliffs. The Blue Cave Castle is my happy place. On my second trip to Jamaica I went solo and picked the castle because I wanted to try the cliffs and it looked funky and unique. That it was and so much more. Susan and Petrona are like family and Chef Teddy is simply the best. I have stayed in almost every room and each is unique and comfortable. The vibe there is simply unmatched. We were married there in Dec. 2007. We reserved the entire property for a week and it was the best week of my life. Surrounded by family and friends I felt like the king of the caribbean. We are going back this Dec. for our 5th anniversary and I can't wait.
We have stayed other places and all were nice but these three are the top for us. Regardless of where we are staying we always visit the others and are welcomed like family.

Re: The Best thing about where you stay.
Seastar Inn because of the nice rooms and good food but most of all the proprietor Chris -- he's the best hotel manager I've ever met, and I've met a heck of a lot of them through the years ....

Re: The Best thing about where you stay.

Rondel village for us, it's the people that work there and the people who stay there!

Re: The Best thing about where you stay.
The best thing about White Sands is the best thing about wherever you stay in Negril. It's Negril - laid back, no attitude (and if you are having trouble with your attitude there is medication for that), kind and unselfish people...
Negril is its own "country" with its citizens scattered across the world. We might only be "home" for 7 or 10 days a year. But we are definitley home. Our home is White Sands.

Re: The Best thing about where you stay.
It's the comfort zone afforded by the property and we have stayed at many over the years. Blue Cave, Heartbeat, Kuyaba, Beach House Villas, Beach Club Condos, Fun Holiday, Caribbean Delight, Rondel,,,, Our desiginated drop place since 2002 with a few exceptions has been Mariposa.
On all properties WE look for and have found on most:
AC, big patio with electrical outlets for coffee maker/toaster/juicer/i-pod dock/blender, we like the stove top at Mariposa for stay at home dinners, we like having a restaurant on property if you don't feel like cooking breakfast or want to supplement lobster pasta with hot bread and a salad or desert, secure parking, 24 hour security it's nice to leave an igloo outside at night and know it will be there in the morning, I love the bustle of the beach but I love for my property to be shady quiet when I walk away from the beach, foot showers at beach and by room, staff that will do laundry or cloths line if you want to shower wash some stuff, wifi, we are older folks and I don't mind saying it - a couple nights a week will find us on patio at 1 a.m. with i-pod dock keeping rythm but we are old enough to know that loud does not trump quality when it comes to our music and that it is our music we don't have to make it our neighbors who may or may not share our taste in music and visa versa, Staff - caring but not overbearing, I have noticed that a good gardener can set a lot of atmosphere for a property, a chef that tells you when the veggie/fruit truck is out front, I am a dog owner at home - I know multiple generations of dogs on some properties - I don't mind my buddies laying at my feet at night - they may be dropping by my door while I'm asleep all night, closeness of other food options and some mini shop options is nice although as a driver Shamrock is a daily ice stop, quality of beach furniture is a plus
I know there is a lot of discussion on this board about "how is the beach at,,,," , I have never seen the beach not be good somewhere. I have seen 50 yards of beach at Mariposa, I have seen it's current water at the wall state, one thing I am confident about is that the sand moves, the property that has water lapping at it today can be buried in 5 feet deep sand after the right storm a year from now,,,,,, the luxury of 40 some trips is that we do not have to have the perfect sun, temp, beach each trip. A storm from central america is differant than a storm over cuba is differant than the most beautifal trade wind day you have ever experienced,,,,,, each brings it's own understanding of the Island.
Sorta sounds like we are picky, but really we are pretty self sufficient, the best thing about there is it is not here and I mean that at every level from the noise and confusion of life to the weather,,,,

Re: The Best thing about where you stay.
We like the private-cottage style cliff resorts, such as Catcha, Tensing Pen, Xtabi, and Citronella. We like to get out and socialize, hang out at the beach, go out to bars and restaurants, and then we have our own little private paradise to go back to when we're ready for some peace & quiet or alone time. It's not everybody's cup of tea, but perfect for Chad and me. We also have to have a refrigerator and coffee maker at the very least, kitchenette is even better. Oh, and love places with outdoor showers.

Re: The Best thing about where you stay.
I like hopping around, and don't have a large cash influx in my traveling --so for me so far favored spot is Bar B Barn with their included breakfast. White Sands beach side didn't do it for me. I used to love NBCC (condo side not Mariners) but outgrew that. Seastar rocks, but I need to be near the sea when I go, as in point my eyes in the direction and it is there. Back in the days when Catcha would harbor guests from seastar for the day, I fell in love with it. Too much $$$ for me though. And I have found I am a beach person, despite all of the associated tribulations. Country Country was fabulous--again the breakfast with lodging sells me--plus cool gardens and unique architecture. So I guess I can say I don't have a favorite go to spot yet. It is a wonderful work in progress. I can't wait to continue the research.

Re: The Best thing about where you stay.
I think everyone looks for something different in what they want their vacation to be...thus the difference of opinions on hotels. I personally prefer to stay somewhere with more of a local vibe as opposed to a touristy hotel. I don't want to be waited on because it just doesn't feel right to me. The place I usually go will also rent long term to locals, which is fine with me. More of a yardie feel than a hotel feel. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I go there to hang out with my peeps..so it works for me

Re: The Best thing about where you stay.
I was loyal to BB Barn for a long time. That place is perfect for budget travelers who like AC and good food and good security, though the security and general feel for the place has not been as good since Michael the security guy left.

Re: The Best thing about where you stay.
We've stayed at "Crunchy Crunchy" and loved it. We've stayed at Blue Cave Castle and loved it. We've stayed at Nirvana and loved it.....we'll be back at Nirvana in Feb, but are thinking of sneaking in a 5 night trip over Thanksgiving. Leaning towards the Cliffs and ready to try someplace new. Thought about Samsara, but it says no smoking and when in Jamaica, well, you get the idea.....so, where to stay?
